I haven't released anything lately due to too many business trips. So I have put together an updated version of The Aeos Affair, adding Lightspeed nebulae and nameplates (and fixing a couple of egregious misspellings):
Aeos research base is located on a frozen planet in the Altair system. As
you know, Altair is about as far away from the front lines of the war as
you can get. We have no significant military presence here. All of our
fighting ships are on the front or elsewhere where they are needed more.
We have only a token force of patrol fighters and various civilian support
ships. But that's alright with us. Nothing ever happens out here.
Elsewhere, the war is going well. The NTF has been defeated. The Shivans
are threatening Capella, but the Colossus is on station there. There are
rumors of a massive Shivan invasion force looming beyond GTVA system, but
rumors are a dime a dozen in this place. We expect to continue our work
here in peace.
Aeos seems to be an abandoned Ancient outpost. The Ancients must have
left this planet in a hurry. There are miles of tunnels and chambers here.
There are many artifacts here. They all seem to be in disarray. Some are
damaged. Others look as if they were simply dropped and left where they
fell. We have a goldmine here, but it will take years to discover what
secrets are held by this frozen rubble. But time is one thing we have lots
of...

Altair originally by Blaise, Aldebaran originally by Singh and Lightspeed. Nameplates created by myself.

Good work, pilot.
-

Huh? The original version is just a campaign file and ten missions. (So is this one; it just has nameplates added.)
Sure you didn't have a different mod installed?
-
I think a voice-acting upgrade would be good for Aeos. Tis definitely a good enough campaign to warrant it (but not so long a campaign that doing so would take all that long to finish).
-
Well I have just one thing to say!finishied it last night!
When is the sequel coming out???

The original campaign came out a long time ago, very much pre-SCP. What Admiral Nelson is simply give the original a graphics tune-up.

The original Aeos Affair readme is dated 3/22/2000.... :)
-
Nicely done!
-
Well regardeless when it came out I liked it very much! And I can not wait for a sequel !
-
Nice! I'm DLing it!
We want it to be voice acted, right? How about requesting a nice voice acting for it?
-
Voice acted would be cool but if I have to chose between a voice acted first campaign and a start and finish of a sequel campaign i chose the later.

There won't be one.
The author released it nearly seven years ago. It's highly unlikely that he's still around.

Might be interesting to e-mail this guy.

Seriously, should we request a voice acting for the campaign?
-
Voice acting takes a loooong time. I have two campaigns ready for release except that one voice actor is not finished in each. This is nobody's fault, due to RL and such, but it is slow. I have one other campaign partially voice acted and another ready for voice acting when this is done.

Well TAA isn't that long...
-
Having never played Aeos Affair before, I thought this was fun. The missions were certainly very original (and enjoyable). Plot kinda bugged me in places though - it didn't mesh well with FS2.
-
Well it's just a challenge for FS players. I have some ideas to make it better...
Creating a score variable, modified by the damage, by the goals ecc. that appears at the end of the campaign.

I'd honestly like to keep FS2 from being turned into an old arcade game as much as possible kthxbye.
-
Maybe we're right. We never used that kind of system...

The Aeos Affair is longer than both of the campaigns that Admiral Nelson is waiting to release.
-
I'm playing this campaign now and I burst out laughing when a ship in the first mission jumped in name "deep throat". First time I have seen a comedy side to such a serious game.

Why are you playing all these old campaigns when you could be playing JAD, then!

I've been just working my way down the campaign list. I'll play JAD next!

As I just finished saying in another thread, campaign release threads by definition cannot be necro'd. They are the official places to discuss a given campaign, no matter when that discussion is taking place.
(God I want that stupid beam to be banned.)

Indeed, and I've been enjoying seeing these campaigns being unearthed that I haven't heard about / haven't played.
-
Sometimes I feel like I am the only one here having played practically all campaigns out there (except for the biggest and most current ones, but I'm getting there, playing WoD at the moment). Even those that were so bad they made my brain hurt.
-
Sarkoth I get that feeling too. I am trying to play all of them out there and for some reason a lot of people neglect the old ones or don't have a clue where I found them(campaign list and General Battuta's campaign guide) until I post something about them.
-
Apparently the completionist approach isn't for everyone. But even after more than 10 years, I am still far from being fed up with the FS franchise. And that's mostly thanks to HLP. :)

To play the old campaigns is to understand where FreeSpace came from and how it got where it is today. I personally prefer many of the old campaigns to the new ones.
