swanky, very swanky, i dont see why you need to shield thrusters considering there mostly pure energy, but still swanky (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Vectored thrust maybe?

bingo.
Anyway, sadly, the engine plates are removed in the model used in the campaign, they were making clipping pbs.

I'll vouche for that! I tested the thing! Venom almost lost it after reworking those things to avoid clipping, only to have it resurface. I remember it well:
Delta: Venom...you're gonna scream...
Venom: No...
God, no...
Delta: The thrusters clip right through the hull.
Venom: S***!!!

shielding from sensors

Its a fantastic fighter! Now he just needs to provide the high-res texies for the in-game one and it'll look awesome(er) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I thought I asked people not to submit models that are being used in mods. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Alright, how about Renders for the end of January, and Models by the end of February? We'll do voting at two different times.
Renders can be of anything, as long as they're at least vaguely space-sim related, models, as before, must be original. Also, this time we aren't going to accept ones from pre-existing mods.

crap. well, remove that entry, anyway, I don't have the time to make a model just for the contest, so I'm out.
-
If i enter a model and then improve it, can i resubmit it?

Sorry Shrike. I didn't know this.
That makes Woomeister's GTJ Eleutherios the only valid entry (as far as I'm aware) the fighter I entered is in GreyWolf's MOD.

nope, woo ship is for inferno lol.
-
Umm no it's not...
it's just next in design liniage of the 2 Inferno ships, it won't appear in the campaign.
-
Yikes! Back to the drawing board for all of us then...

oups, sorry woom (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Well, Mag, not for me, no time left for that.
oh, the banshee and the jotun where not meant for any campaign, could I apply them for the contest?

I suppose so.
Actually, I think, since everyone's all busy and stuff, we'll extend the contest deadline.
Just as a little comment though, do you know why I wanted people to not bring in ships from mods? Besides the fact that the Bastion won, (which just highlights the point I'm going to make perfectly) bringing ships from mods isn't showing off what you can do. It's merely showing what you can do in FS. And this isn't about FS models, it's about modelling in general.
Don't limit yourself to FS-type stuff, people are doing that too much. It's a model, it should be nice and detailed. People make render-quality models of ships from B5 or ST in truespace, so why can't you guys?
Get out of the FS box!
-
FreeSpace-style meaning not an imitation of some syndicated TV show? This isn't particularly like the ships in FS. None of mine are. They're just a certain ship style, that for one is popular right now, and one that fits the FS capabilities and gameplay excellently. Wanna make a completely revolutionary ship, without apparent influences from anywhere, and show us? 'Cos it seems like the "FS box" is a lot roomier than anything you wanna do.

This is the FS box I'm talking about. This isn't a contest about models for FS, this is about models in general. Why limit yourself? If you can make a nice model with 50,000 polys, go ahead and do it.
I'm trying to get people to do more than make FS models.
-
Ah. Good, mine is around 50000. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
I don't think minimizing polys or the realm of what is possible in FS is really the first consideration in making a concept, here or anywhere, it's what you deal with in the final stage. Maybe it's just me and that's why mine suck, I dunno.
Actually, I didn't realize they could be anything, not just FS mods. Now if only I could upload movies (don't ask why I can't, they just don't UL), I'd have some eye candy for you people...
-
So my ship is going to win, since it's the only valid entry yet? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

yeah, but what about the low poly category? If I make a low poly ship, it's obviously to put it in FS2, so, apart from the arcadia, they're all FS2 based (too bad I can't put the arcadia in (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) ).
So, low poly category trashed?
-
Nope mines still valid (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
I'd go higher poly but my computer doesn't like that so 10000ish will do me (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
I have problems with high poly models too. Simply because I'm still stuck with the great modeller I already used for the Autarch. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Ok, well count me out then.

Because I couldn't use them for anything then. All I model for is putting stuff in FS.
-
Me too (really droped the idea any way), I make FS2 models, and MS3D is for LOW poly models only it'll crash at 'SOME' point...

I hope there is a low poly section. I have a few Fighters which im making for FS. Are those gun textures done by you or by OTT staff or did you find them somewhere?

Ermmmm...problem...I only create models for a campaign, so none of my models won't be in it, or at least most of them will, I was never told which ones were and weren't going to be included?
So, am I still eligable? If not, you should recied all of my models except the one I posted in the FS MODing forum, because that's going to be my latest entry... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
Sorry if I caused any problems.. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
If anyone wants to see the model but don't want to leave this one particular forum and go searching for it, here it is:
