Title: Discovery - Render
Post by: Thorn on January 17, 2002, 02:49:00 pm
Finally figured out how to do fog with Lightwave.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
Its so simple, cant believe I didnt figure it out before....
Anyway, on to the render.
A Hecate sent on a scientific exploration mission discovers a Sathanas derelict in low orbit of a gas giant.

Now, explain to ME how you do fog. Oh, and that's kinda snazzy. Is it possible to add some color to the fog, and make it streaky?

See if I could just get someone who could texture a mara for me, I'd mod a Sathanas in to replace the biobomber and the Storm Petrel.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

The sath should replace, say, the guillotine maybe  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Not if you're flying a Mara.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

There is nothing to really compare the sathanas to in IW2... the largest warship is just over 1km long

That's a matter of modding though. Let me tell you, watching a 4.4km long juggernaut pop out of the St. George Lag and open up with a dozen assault cannon turrets is an intimidating thing.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I'm reasonably sure that we could just about build FS2 in Iwar2. Or better yet, FS3.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)

Hehe like to see that... except it wouldn't retain the "Freespace" Feel... It'll feel like it's.......Iwar2 (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Then mod the Lags to look like subspace nodes. Shouldn't that be possible too?

But you wouldn't have the mondo humungoid beam cannons.

bems canon can be done, excepted they won't have charge up/down sequence.
I meant replacing the guillotine for logical reasons, not to make any comparison  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
just sounds more logical to me to replace a big ship you almost never see rather than your home base...

Even better- you put a Lucifer in with a dozen Shivan models as T-Fighters!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

You can make the beams in Iwar2 as big as you want. You can even do power up power down sequences. Its all there in the INI and the LWS files.

Also, since we can know that we can mount beams on t-fighters, we can have beam turrets. Since we can limit turret angles (in the INI file for the turret) we can limit angles of attack for the beams.

All this, of course, is dependent on the release of POG.

you can limit turret angles, but not Tfighter angles

No. You can't limit Tfighter angles. But i'm not interested in doing so.

I can mod a comms laser into a great ugly Sathanas beam.

I can mount a comms laser onto a turret fighter. That means that there is in engine reason that beams cannot be autotargetting or be mounted on freely rotating turrets.

I can, therefore, with POG make a turret with a beam.

I can limit a turrets range of motion.

There is no reason, therefore, that a Sathanas, with proper beams, could not be built in Iwar2 as soon as POG is released.
