Title: trouble with custom wav's since moving up to fs2 open and fred2 open
Post by: freespacefanatic73 on February 21, 2007, 11:27:27 am
Hopefully someone can help me. I moved up from retail freespace 2 to open 3_6_9. yesterday.

While using retail, I had a custom mission that uses custom wavs I put together for briefing and debriefing voice purposes. All custom voice wavs worked fine when i was using retail, however, when i moved up to "open" yesterday my briefing and debriefing custom wavs won't work in freespace missions. Fred open will let me select them but not preview them nor will it save the changes to, or work in the game itself. Anyone know what's up with that? I do have all my custom wavs in my "Special" folder.

Summary
1 Custom wav Command briefing voices don't work
2 Custom wav Briefing voices don't work
3 Custom wav Debriefing voices don't work
4. My custom In-mission wav voices work fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Try putting your custom wavs into the respective voice folders in the games/freespace2/data/voices folder.

2nd option (This is frowned upon apparantly but it works for me) Copy all the folders in the data folder and open the mediavps folder. There should be a data folder in that; paste all the folders into there (Say no to replacements to be on the safe side)

This works for me, yet i've had sooooo many issues with my 3.6.9 and its been tweaked soooo many times it probably runs slightly differently to others.

Not responsible if the monitor blows up in your face ;)

I gave both suggestions a try with no results unfortunately. I'll keep picking at it periodically.  :( but the input is most appreciated.

 :) Update!

I solved my briefing / debriefing wav issue!

First, I backed up all my pilot data, mods, and custom wavs (basicly copied the data folder to another location on the PC.)
Next, I uninstalled Freespace 2 retail and SCP.
Then, I went into the registry and delted the freespace entries in the registry.
Fourth, I clean installed SCP using good ole Turey's installer.
Finally, After the clean reinstall of SCP, I put the backed-up data folder back into its proper location in the newly installed SCP folder. Fired SCP up and BOOOOOYA! i'm back in business.

I'm pretty amped about it so I am happy to share it with you guys.
