The only problem is it that it's rather dark inside...I'll have to think of something... (glowmaps for the rock texture won't work..alltough for the windows on the structures would)

and the surface was painted in this odd repeating paturn.

Why won't glowmaps work on the inside?
And yea...really have to fix that repeating texture there.

Yup.. I need to find some better asteroid texture, since the thing is big. With less tiling it looks absolutely catastrophic when you come close..
Glowmaps work normally, and the buildings inside can be lit without problems, but how do you lit the "cave wall?"
Becosue of the lightinng half the wall is pitch black and you collide with it before you even know you're there. Unless I make a glowing wall, I realyl don't know how to make it better visible...

I don't know he did it, but Omni got it to work for the Scar asteroid for BTRL. You use a glowmap without any glow, just an image of the rock face on it or something. I don't know exactly, I'm not a texturer :) But it is possible.

Try giving it a glowmap which is the exact same as the normal texture, but with the brightness (etc) lowered. IIRC glowmaps are always rendered as they are, regardless of lighting, so you'll end up with a dim-but-not-black wall.

Wow for a moment I thought you had one of the asteroid/bases I collected. Then I remembered the outside you got a flattened sphere.
I got 6-7 "asteroids" that need someone to "fix" if you or anyone else wants me to I will dig them out of my drives and pack them up... Some have bases already inside. Others just have tunnels through them, those are a Bi*** cause it's all the same texture and you lose yourself inside the twists and turns cause you can't see the hole all you see if the same texture (might be a depth perception trick. a man made looking texture like a ship hull might work, BUT, the inside tunnel/faces would have to be selected and painted as these things are all one object.
I have not progressed to the point of that (yet).

You think findig a good texture for this is hard?
The base (asteroid) isn't that big (less than 2km across), but I got a shivan one in thw works that like, 40km big..
How do you tile THAT so it still looks good??

5km wip robotech factory... You can park an ORION facing either way on the platform and still have room!
I did the glow mappage or rock thingy.

That's me in the center of the platform firing diagnal to the entrance 3km away...
Your kind of texturing would definitely improve it :D
I'm surprised this worked, got to try the others now...

I'm not satisifed with the model myself (made it a long time ago), so you don't have to tell me it sucks..

Anyway, that looks great! I'll search around and see if I have any ast textures you like for the outer surface
can you send me the WIP and I'll throw some stuff on it.
Incidently, when I see yours on it's side, it kinda reminds me of the Dolza base??? Might be cause I'm high on Bourbon Chicken from the mall... ;7 YUMMY!

Ehh... It doesn't look Shivan at all...
Given that we never seen a shivan base of any kind it's hard to tell.. Besides, it's an asteroid base, which means tehy slapped some structures on a big peace of floating rock...I doubt any race will make a 6km long spike jsut for decoration...
But it does have TOOO few details for something of that size...

Unfortunately the texture is the same. Couldn't find a good asteroid texture (and belive me I tried). All look like crap when you come close.
