Title: Problem in "Red Alert" Mission (problem=crash)
Post by: Vidmaster on February 24, 2007, 11:13:48 am
After "Field of Destruction", the mission when the "Krios" is going down, the game always crashs.
No matter, which vessel I chosse in "F.o.D.", I always get a, let's call it ship, armed with PhonixVs.
I said, let's call it ship, because I don't know what fighter i am sitting in !

When I try to look at my fighter (external cams) or one of my wingmates (should) get on the screen, the whole game crashs.

I use the Freespace 2 SCP Pack v1.9c, by ShivanSpS, I think he included version 3.0.3 of the port, but I am not sure.
I tried to update, but I just have no idea how to do this with the folder ShivanSpS included.

Disable the mediaVPs and see if anything is different.

Okay, the folder mediaVPs in the main FS2 folder contains:
-settings
-mp710_effects.vp
-mp710_models.vp
-mv_core.vp
-mv_effects.vp
-mv_models.vp
-mv_music.vp
-mv_textures.vp
-mod
-FS2 (a bitmap)
-mv_adveffects (a folder)
   +mp-310_adveffects.vp
   +mv_adveffects.vp
-data (of course a folder)
   +multi
   +NaRR10_Nebulae.vp
   +Elysium_HTL.vp
+ and the folders (all empty) cache / maps / missions / models / players

quote from ShivanSpS' readme:

About mv_adveffects.vp:
This is a additional effects file, that is not required for playing, its add some visual effects, but downgrade performance and uses too much memory, and in a plan to give a pack for every system, this file is included, but is not used, you may use it if you want, is your decision.

How-To Re-activate the mv_adveffects.vp:
This file is located in "MediaVps/mv_adveffects", to allow to be used the only you need to do is to move them from is current folder to the "MediaVPs" folder... if you wish to de-activate them again, just move them again to the "mv_adveffects" folder.

Update 1.9: Remember to move "mv_advalphapatch.vp" too.

As Goob said, disable all the mediavps.  Just run the port with FSO.

I'm not entirely sure how Shiavn's install is set up.  BUT, you should have separate folders for the FSPort and the mediavps.  You only want the port enabled.  This means you may have to edit the mod.ini file in the port folder to remove the secondarymod.

Yes, there are separate folders for the FSPort and the mediavps.
Setting FS to "Default FS2 (All Features off) didn't work.
BUT: editing the mod.ini worked ! At least I can finish (although it's not very entertaining) FS:ST, although it looks ugly now.
Thanks for your help.
