Title: RELEASE: HTL Typhon (v1.0)
Post by: TrashMan on February 25, 2007, 05:33:54 am
Since it seemd to go unnoticed I thought I put a new thread (besides, people usualyl make a RELEASE thread :D )

Any changes, newver version or other stuff will be posted here.

Download:
http://hades-combine.com/web/index.php?ind=downloads&op=section_view&idev=36

NOTES:
The ship has extra turets (just remove turrets 16-27 from the table for the stock Typhon feel)
I also forgot to reduce the hitpoint count (currently it's 190000)

And there's only one LOD. Couldn't convert the lower lvl lods (which are STOCK models..wierd, I know).

Working on the MV pack again. ;)

I'm downloading you model now.

Edit: Hmm what is the *.tbm in there for?
Does this model somehow change the gameplay?

If you don't disable the extra turrets, then it does..

ARGH! Now you reminded me, the weapon loadout is not canon at all! I forgot to change it! It uses vasudan weapons made by me...

As long as you re-name the model to the captital03.pof (or whatever the stock typhon is named) and don't use hte tabels I provided no changes to the gameplay.

If you plan to use my tables then there will eb changes (extra turrets)

Hmm it doesn't have lods either...

Those would be nice to have.

I know..

I don't understand it - the lower lods are STOCK typhon models.. I havn't TOUCHED anything on them, just re-named them..and they won't convert...go figure..

Great stuff - I love the smoother hullform.  However, the boxart sort-of suggests the ship was somewhat 'flatter' than the ship we got in-game (that you based this on) as the nose doesn't seem to be so 'low' relative to the docking arms or bridge area.  When I get back from work I'll make an image illustrating what I'm talking about, and I'm probably just crazy. :)

Aren't HTL ships supposed to have the same weapons configuration as their low poly counter-parts?

Yes they are... but certain people don't see it that way

AFAIK he added extra turrets to the pof, in addition to the normal ones, this means when it goes into FSU the tbl data for those turrets would just not be there.

And the extra turrets looks differently, so they won't really stand out :D

there are no laws that say you can't make a hi poly model and add turrets. It is all up to the modeler, if you don't like it you don't have to use it.

Yes. You can make a case for altering stuff like the shape of the model and what not, but adding turrets fundamentally changes canon (even if you leave out the table data, they still don't belong there)

Yup, but then the modeller has no right to complain when someone makes a canon HTL and the customized version does not go into VPs.

It's in 3.6.9 now, but I really hope I can replace it with a new version that has lods, before the release.

Wha? No. Added turrets should not be allowed in the mediavps!

Look at the screenies or the model itself. The extra turrets don't even look like turrets (more like observation decks or sensors).

If they don't look like turrets, don't act like turrets and dont sound like turrets, then they aren't turrets (assuming you use standard ship.tbl) :D

Everybody should be happy - the purists and those who want the older ship more up to date with modern one (or jsut want more firepower)

In what way does the model have 'added turrets' if DaB renames it and doesn't use a custom table?  It has areas of detail that look innocuous.  They don't shoot, don't have barrels, etc.  In what way are they 'added turrets' and how does the presence of non-firing detail areas alter canon any more than anything else added to HTL models?

Yepp, I didn't include the table, so it should be fine.

Fine. I'll add 50 turrets to the Horus model and just not include them in the table file.

Where was this discussion when VA added two extra turrets to the Lucifer? They're on the model but disabled by not including them in the table files.

Those were on the original cut scene model... so it wasn't at all out of place on the hi-poly.

I wasnt aware of them, else I'd probably complained then, too. But atleast even there there's canonical footage with them. This is just added.... willynilly.

Perhaps. But the model has larger problems than extra undefined turrets. It has zero missile turrets and a few turrets are in the wrong places. I'd think that would screw up balance even worse.

Albeit doesn't that make them crap turrets when they are used? :p ;)

Depends really...
They can pass for turrets, but I guess that depends on how you imaggine a vasudan turret in the first place.

Pics of what?
The ship or the extra turrets?

Either way both are in the HTL Typhon thread...

And I STILL havn't managed to get around that stack overflow problem... I'm slowly giving up on the idea to use stock models for lower LVL (detail 2, 3 & 4) lods... (0 and 1 are mine)
