I have a idea, we create a cruiser, and battle in a special map, just place all cruiser in map and battle by IA....
We see the best cruiser
-
Oh jesus....
-
:doubt:
you are afraid, my big cruiser destroy your cruiser in 2seconde....

ULTIM BATTLE OF ALL MEMBERS FS2!!!!!
We call that Hard Light General Discussion ;)
-
I don't know it sounds kinda fun. :D
I wonder just how many cruisers you could put in at once, though... and how you'd make thm all fight. Even with the "All teams at War" option there's a limited number of teams.
-
CAPS LOCK IS FUN!!!!
To expand on your idea, though, the Relic forums has something called "Community Fleet Building," where everyone posts their ships for a community fleet (link: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=136777). They use Sketchup (yay! :p), since it's free and easy to use. It might be a fun idea to try that here, and at the end we have a big series of multiplayer matches (if there are enough people who made small craft. User-made capital ships could fight in the background, or be mission objectives), using all of the ships in one massive community mod VP file (that maybe can have the best ones plucked and distributed in the media VPs as a bonus add-on).

Seriously?
-
Why not? Just make it an addon media VP so everyone has it, and have a HLP-organized series of internet matches at certain times so people will know that others will be playing.
Problem is, I don't know who would want to design the missions, but meh. Just an idea.

You could have a 2-4 team "capture the flag" type mission, each team is assigned (or picks) a capital ship and must defend it from the other teams, last capital ship standing wins! Just my two cents :D

I forsee this basically degenerating into: "Get your ****ing ubercruiser of doom out of my universe RIGHT NOW."
-
Lollerskates.
-
I am begining for the moment, i do not create map multi, i try a create cruiser, and i create my site with new planet and nebulae, and i will host all CD and tools....
There is somebody who can build this map multi? Who are the best on SCP here, Karajorma is the best here? and who other?
-
I take it English is not your native language? :p
And you don't need to host tools, they're all over the place already. And why don't you learn to make a mission (they're called missions, not maps, in FS), and do it yourself? Although Kara is very good, I don't know if he'd call himself "the best", if there even is such a thing. There are many other very talented FREDDers around here.
-
I'd just pwn you all with an Apollo fighter with the "Invulnrable" flag turned on.
-
:shaking:
I host all files on my server because i am one modder in france, i live paris....
In france we are 5 or 6. I translated for them HLP forum, i explain for them...
And yes i will create mission, When I would be good on Fred.

I most certainly wouldn't call myself the best as it's very hard to judge skills in FRED once you get past a certain threshold.
To be honest you can't call yourself the best unless you've made a mission which is regarded as the best mission ever made by the majority of the community. Cause when all is said and done it doesn't really matter how technically brilliant you are. All that really matters is that the mission is fun to play.
As for making this mission I've got the same problem most of the other people have. It's basically a case of everyone making models and then looking at the code to see what is the highest limit is for everything. Whoever enters those into the table file wins.
-
Certain people specialise at certain things as well, some people are great at combat interactions and scripted capship battles, but absolutely loathe going near the communications or briefing stuff, and even though they CAN do it, they won't know as much about it than someone who's more comfortable and willing to experiment.
-

French, I believe. His english is much better than my francais :)
Anyways, it's not a good idea.... you don't want a 'who has the strongest ship' pissing match, when the victor is who can type the biggest numbers into the tbl without the game exploding :)
-
What if you put all of the parts of a ship into a table, plugged in some sort of infernal math equation that took the stats and pumped out a single value based on them, and then used that as a point value limiter for each ship? Like what you see in tabletop strategy games... the parts on the ship, plus it's speed, hull, etc, have to fit within a set limit of points.
-
In a way "parts" or subobjects of the compoents already divide teh total number of HP you assigne dinto them, but more specifically a better way is this
assigning value based on ship class and version of chasis is more logical as in regular fs2 but make these across the board guidelines so people can plug there custom ships in.
Fighters (light, med, or heavy)
Bombers (same)
then the support type vessels
and last the caps (frig, crus, dest, jug)
also assign variable based on species (soem have better construction others more weapon punch a third better engines) if you WANT.
That's just my opinion... At least for a start...
-
Interesting idea... what if you put the AI mother ships in to duke it out, and then played as fighters/bombers to defend their ships?
-
:nervous: :shaking: :shaking: :nervous:
It is 2hours AM in paris, i am tired....

Meh, I was up until 4 AM last night, then got up at six to go to school...
Anyways, I like the idea of assigning base stats, then giving everyone a certain number of "points", and let them place them where they want (of course, we'd need a points-per-1-increase for every field, as otherwise you'd be more likely to spend them on speed than HP, as it'd do more good.)

It's impossible; you'd need to consider a myriad of effectively random factors relating to relative turret positioning / size / vulnerability for one thing, as well as angles of attack and the rather dim capship AI.
-
How about a super nuclear explosion in the whole space battle carnage ? huhu xD not like BSG, but somekind near as Supreme Commander or the next RTS from Massive Entertainment, World in Conflict ? :p

can i be ur cruiser ;-*
-
You guys do realize... most missions that star with "defend your xxx ship from other xxx ship(s)" you'll end up with at least 1 of the other ships disabled and disarmed, the player too busy to destroy it. If you do that in multiplayer, odds are they'll dogfight, taking their grand old time... oh and all major ships will be completely disarmed and disabled within the first 2 minutes (for cruisers).
Good luck... If I had my way with any uber-cruiser that had to fit in a certain total-power-cap, I'd replace everything like a turret to a morning stars and maxims and Ultra-AAAf... oh and put on all slasher beams; they will commonly hit bombers and nobody respects Command for "Avoid the beams and you won't get hit!", responding to "Damn it, Actium! Watch that friendly fire!"...
-
I don't think you can put Slashers on cruisers. ('cept for the LTerSlash) None of the cruisers had them. The only beams used were the SGreen and LTerSlash.

Janos the flying cruiser of d00m!

Instead of battle royale, could do a tournament style thing, with 1v1 capship matches. There's have to be a lot of other limits imposed on the ships as well. If you're going to put two capships in a level and beamfree them, they're going to have to be built in a way that they don't break the engine. Certain size requirements, maneuverability, etc. I could see a point based system working for most of those issues. You may also want to consider limiting the number of certain types of turrets though too. And I'm guessing we would only be able to pull from stock fs2 weaponry, and probably avoid anything like super shivan beams or something, sticking with more reasonably sized capship beams. Just a couple thoughts.
