I have had this game, and enjoyed playing since 2002 when I got it at target along with Silent Threat. :D
I was wondering if there any servers besides the FS2netD one that host FS1?
Thanks

Gunnery Control, target SireDoimeHeretic. Begin plasma core insertion. Sensor lock aquired, commence firing sequence...

Welcome to the the HLP Forums. Exits are to the sides and rear. Don't plan on using them though, someone let the hosted projects put all their stuff in there so they're all but inaccessible. In the event of an emergency, flamethrowers are stowed under your seat but due to budget cuts, they are now filled with holy water. There are pulse rifles and assorted heavy weapons in the lockers up front; these can be opened only by admins, a :v: - god, or a hyper-intelligent shade of the color blue. These weapons are reserved for the Apocalypse, bad April Fools jokes, and the mention of eF eS thr33, in that order, so don't get your hopes up about using them. In the event of a water landing, your seat cushion can be used as a flotation device, and you'll find a week's supply of Bosch Beer hidden inside. There's a 95% probability that the beer isn't actually beer, and no one is really sure why you'd need a flotation device in deep space, but hopefully these will provide some small comfort.
Feel free to get acquainted with the place while you're here, and do be careful when exploring the ventilation systems. If you encounter a large 5-limbed creature, don't panic. Just set down your lunch and back away very slowly. If you're lucky it will just be Carl, our resident shivan, who responds quite well to bribes of food. If it's not Carl, and it's in a good mood, at least your death should be quick and painless. If you're particularly unlucky though you might get dragged into a religion or politics thread, in which case may God have mercy on your soul.
:D
I don't know your answer, wait for someone that does. In the meantime, get FS:SCP (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,45496.msg926914.html#msg926914) if you have high-speed, see what you think. ;7

Actually FS2NetD doesn't host FS1 (or retail FS2 for that matter) except if you play the FS1 on FS2 conversion on an SCP build.
Once PXO is fixed and working again that will support FS1 :)
-
-Will PXO support FS:SCP?
-
Of course. :)
-
how come i never got beamed....
oh...err....
will the coming of PXO wipe out FS2net, and make us start all over again with pilot stats?

Here you go!
:necro:
(I know it was a minor necro, but he was asking for it! ;) )

I GOT HIT BY A BFGREEN! OMBFG!
couldnt help but quote that. anyway, answer to question please?
-
I would imagine that they'd both be separate entities, each with their own stats?
-
aww...no stat transfers. maybe a server-merger? toss out the older less-effective server and put everything on the faster PXO server? or we could just stick lobby chat into FS2NetD and forget the letters pee-ex-oh just as we did eff-ess-three.
-
It'd be nice to somehow make FS2NetD integrate somewhat with PXO; ie, you provide your PXO login, and then it automatically checks PXO server info & lets you chat w/PXO players. If PXO did the same for FS2NetD that'd be even better.
-
PXO will replace FS2NetD, we aren't going to keep them both running. The FS2NetD code is being rewritten for 3.6.10, and on the surface will work much more like PXO, but behind the scenes it will be an upgraded FS2NetD backend. The total conversion to PXO will come later, when I have time to finally rewrite the trackers (user and game).
And there is no plan to keep the stats. They will most likely just be dumped and everyone will start fresh with new PXO usernames.

does this mean squadwar will come back to life to?

If there is any justice in this world, Squadwars will stay buried forever.
-
What was so bad about Squadwars?
And I'm asking out of ignorance, since I didn't get the game until PXO went down. :P
-
SquadWars were only for the hardcore.
People who were weak couldn't handle it.
Internet at its best (and worst).
-
I, for one, would love to have it. So I can modify it for Fringespace. heh heh. :D

i wonder if there is any MP for FSport?

i wonder if there is any MP for FSport?
Not as of now.
-
maybe when PXO gets necromanced. unless PXO will only let REAL fs1 on....
-
I don't think that MP FS1 would be very good at all as practically no one would be on.

There's no good reason you can't play with the port online. The only problem is that you have even less chance of encountering someone to play with than if you were playing FS2.

Actually, now that I think about it, I believe I have played multi with the FSPort. I think it was with Shivan, to test his "Art of War" mission.
-
Hmm, are there any stand-alone servers going 24/7 with missions that ppl can just join? I'm thinking like in Halo, some of the servers listed are just standalone, so ppl can join them whenever, without having to host. This might help, as the odds of more than one person wanting to play at the same time are I think OK (I believe most ppl check to see if someone's online, if no one is, they don't bother), whereas the odds of someone being willing and able and actually hosting a multiplayer game at the same time as someone else wanting to play aren't.
-
The only thing preventing anyone from playing multiplayer using the Port is finding someone to play with. Galemp and I have played multiplayer Port missions several times.
-
Hmm, right, but my point was, to play with someone, you have to make a server, right? Not everyone knows how to do that. (I don't... then again, maybe I did once... I tried, but no-one connected, and I know there was someone trying to. IDK whether the problem was his or mine. I have a cable modem whose config I can't access... stupid ISP.

The cable modem shouldn't block ports, but just so you know, if it's a Motorola Surfboard modem, http//192.168.100.1/ may come in handy.

Doesn't work... (Toshiba PCX2600) problem is prolly my Motorola WR850G Wireless Router, but >hurray!< I just found this site, which has no-brainer explaination of how to set up port forwarding etc etc for a ton of routers:
http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm
Now, my only question is, instead of using a static IP, I can use DynDNS, right? I already have DynDNS set up, so if that will work then great; I'll prolly try sometime tomorrow.
-
Dynamic DNS shouldn't have any effect on FS2_Open since your PC is being found by its IP address not its domain name.
If you mean you want to use DHCP and still forward ports then the most sensible thing to do is to also set up a reservation for your PC's MAC address on your router to tie you to a specific IP Address.

What would that be under (what would be the technical name for that, eg Port Forwarding, DNS Proxy, Port Trigger, Virtual Server...) <-- I have only a very foggy notion of what those do, which irritates me... kara, me wants a FAQ... :D j/k; but if you know of a good, sensible (logically explained) walkthrough or FAQ for that kind of stuff, I'd appreciate it.
EDIT: BTW, AFAIK, DynDNS (http://www.dyndns.com) freely assigns me an external, static IP of 24 / 92 - 40 + 53 (replace math symbols with dots).
See here: http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/

Yes. However, the router forwards ports based on the INTERNAL static IP addy. It's usually in the form of 192.168.***.***

Is that the one that I use to get to the router setup? If not, which is it? I know how to get a bunch of info by typing ipconfig /all...

if you just type ipconfig, look for the default gateway, and put that number in the browser, it should work.

thx.
EDIT:
Okay, I finally have a decent understanding of what's what, and I have configured an internal (for my network) static IP address. This page helped alot:
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm
Thx for the help there, Turey... I was confusing an external IP address with an internal one. n00b mistake. (I know somewhat about computers, but networks are my sore spot.)
EDIT: Merged post to get rid of double post.
