Mmmmmm. I was fortunate enough to catch a preview screening of this tonight at the local university(East Carolina, if anyone was wondering). Words fail to describe it. When you get a chance, as soon as possible, go see it. It's worth it. Oh man. My throat is sore from shouting quotes from the movie on the way home. Haven't had that happen in an awful long time.
Anyone else as lucky as me?

i wish! I'm so going to see it on the really large IMAX screen. its going to be a bloody massacre, I love it! so excited!
"This is madness!" "Madness? This is SPARTA!"

Joining Ford with his thoughts, as in what the heck are you talking about?
Now I am a bit more curious about the gif above though...
-
I'm seeing it Saturday with one Greek friend and one Persian friend. And I'm not trying to funny or sarcastic, that is actually who I'm seeing it with. My guess is that the grudge which will ensue will be of Biblical proportions.

The movie of - oh bugger, I forget his name, guy who did the Sin City cartoons - 's cartoon of the battle of Thermopylae, of the same name (300 - 300 spartans against the Persian army).

300 is based upon the graphic novels of one Frank Miller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Miller_%28comics%29). From what i've heard, they stuck pretty close to a lot of the visuals in the comic, so expect surreal, ultra-stylised action and all kinds of wacky fun.
-
Would you believe me if I said that was the only time I'd forgotten Frank Millers' name in, ooh, years?
-
Not really, no.

Fool. And thus your conversation to the dark side will be complete!

I really wish the nearest IMAX screening wasn't in Chicago.
That said, I'll probably be going to see it next Friday. It shall be epic.

Firstly, that's very funny. Secondly - why does it play so slowly when I save it to my computer and open it normally - but it plays at a decent speed when I view it on a webpage in Firefox?
-
I don't know, but I've noticed the exact same thing.
-
advantage to living in the T-dot. I have a choice of a few Imaxs not so far, but I shall see it at the Paramount (i refuse, REFUSE, to call it Scotiabank Theatre :ick: ) which is just a relatively short walk away.
i love that gif...its awesome...
"this is red sauce!" "Red sauce? This is SPARTA!" boot...

What exactly is IMAX? I know it's not full 3-D, but something better than par...but I've been to one.

It's called the Scotiabank Theatre? You mean the one on Richmond and John?
It's a great theatre, I saw a bunch of movies there (Children of Men, V for Vendetta)
-
IMAX is just a bigger clearer picture, AFAIK. It's filmed on it's own special film so a normal movie doesn't benefit any from being played at an IMAX theater, again AFAIK.
-
IMAXes also have better sound systems. I think the one near my house has something like 8000 watts of power in the speakers...
-
They use an IMAX projector in the Boston Museum of Science's Omni Theater. It's the most terrifying thing I've ever experienced. The incline of the seat rows is ridiculously steep, so you're totally exposed inside a massive dome with a screen on it. They warn people with heart conditions or fear of heights not to go in.
-
I got sick and threw up half way through watching a documentary film (Niagara Fall) in the IMAX theater when I was 15.

It is now. Scotiabank paid cineplex the normal crap load of cash to slap its name across the front of it. it's still the same great theatre, just with a more corporate whorish name. after the travesty of Skydome (its not the bleeping Rogers Centre...its SKYDOME!), i refuse to call the Paramount by any other name...
i think i shall start a topic discussing this further...
regardless of its name though...the 300 shall await me.

I have imax 10 minutes away but its all sold out until 12:10AM so im seeing it in the DLP screen instead.
-
I've been hearing from customers (I work retail) that its been sold out all day. looks like I'll have to wait a few days. :blah:
-
it was pretty good.
kinda like a documentary on COMPLETE PWNAGE
-
Saw it today, and I heartily recommend it to anyone and everyone. They took some liberties in deviating from the comic, which was usually to the film's detriment. The film drifted even more away from the plausible into the realm of pure fantasy and it ended up a bit cheesy. They also tried to add in the standard emotional love story crap, which didn't fit very well. But all that is minor details in what is otherwise a great flick.
Overall a very good movie if you're expecting the right thing, namely epic action and lots of it.

Not really one to take the girlfriend to. If there's any scene the doesn't have a boatload of blood, it will probably have boobs.

That should so be the tagline. :p

Heh, well my girl has a huge crush on Gerrard Butler, and can appreciate boobs if they're good boobs. I'll take her to see it next week.

Mefustae was wrong. This should be the tagline. :p

lol, yeah, my girl is more of a faramir fan, and she enjoyed the movie maybe a little too much...
-
I was pretty boy fan :P I liked Orlando Bloom :D I'm more of a cool man fan now. I like Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman :D
-
anyone feel like less of a man from watching that movie?
-
nope.
although it is sad that when people try to sacrifice their lives for freedom nowadays, they end up as pawns in some corrupt politician's power/money grab.
-
I'm so seeing this in IMAX within a week. Maybe it'll be my 'Yay, you survived the SAT and ACT within three days of each other!' present.
Regardless, I can't wait. Looks amazing. The only common complaints I've seen in reviews lately is the movie's game-y look (couldn't care less) and that nearly every line is screamed (again, couldn't care less).
Here's to hoping I can take the gore. Blood's fine, but when limbs start flying I can get a tad squeemish. Maybe the extreme pwnage will override that. XD
-
Never has shameless rapage of historical events set to banging music been so entertaining.

The Prestige FTW. :D

Pfeh! Do the GRE, then you have a right to complain.

Funny, because I took my nice, Catholic girl best friend to see it with me. She said she liked it.
Too bad Just Like You Imagined didn't make it into the film. They really synced it up well with the shots in the trailer.

Wow...Iran thinks everything is a war on them thee days:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070313/wl_mideast_afp/afpentertainmentusiran_070313120951
A cultural advisor to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described the film as "American psychological warfare against Iran."
Guess they don't have the concept that a film can be made without the input of the government? :p
-
They better start getting pissed at history then. And since when do they think they have a million troops vs our 300?
-
I'm more of a cool man fan now. I like Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman :D
The Prestige FTW. :D
Ok, I will buy the DVD and add it to my collection. Oh, I just cam back from watching 300. It was a great bloody movie! I don't usually like too much blood in the movie but this one's good... :D

Wait, you haven't seen it yet? Considering it has both Bale and Jackman as the primary actors, I find that astounding. :eek2:

Am I the only one who remembers the fact that you can't trademark a number? AMD could make a 4040, 8080, 8086, 286, 386, and 486 without infringing on the patents from Intel; it wasn't properly done so they lost a lot of money and had to let AMD (and other now-nonexistent companies) manufacture the CPU's; same reason that AMD and Intel both use x86 is stemming from that.
I'm really just waiting for someone to copy "300" without permission and win a lawsuit about it. It should be fun!
-

Yes, I haven't seen it. I have so busy in the last 4 months, and I have not watched TV for over 6 months! Today's the first time in a couple of months I had some time to go see a movie at the theather :)
Lots of red sauce? :D
Oh yes, lots and lots :P

Saucy! Did you enjoy the scenes of warrior-men wearing very little clothing?
-
Well, they were in their undies all the time and the women were wearing very little too. Everyone will enjoy the scenes of good bodies and I didn't complain :D
