I get the sneaking feeling I've suggested this before to no avail, but I digress........
How many people would be interested in participating in a community project - something along the lines of a traditional shmup, one ridiculously overpowered player craft versus hundreds of weak enemies? I was thinking cell-shaded (assuming it's still supported) for reasons that it looks more '16-bit' and should be easier than 'full' textures (anticipating any interest being as a '2nd project'), a few player-selectable ships with special weapons, and lots of simple, swarmy enemies. A sort of tecchy demo thing, if you will, with a few levels ala the 'gauntlet' ones in FS1/2. Maybe multiplayer co-op if we get ambitious.

Axem and I once conspired to make a Raiden clone using the Freespace 2 engine...(model WIP by me)

Where's a model for that fighter from the last starfighter. And the Ar-wings are already cutting through swathes of enemies, albeit behind closed doors.
-
indeed, he described starfox in the first posT but i think SoL will make things balanced for the idea of a challenge. since weak enemies+freespace= one very fried McBosch burger

**** YES! WE NEED A LAST STARFIGHTER MOD!

Starfox never had cluster missiles (for example), or more than 2 lasers on a ship (er, I think.... need to drag out Starfox Command on DS and check that), though........

I once had some plans to make a DEM-style parody of the main campaign with the gameplay set up like that, among other things. Basically like Excessive Unreal, if anyone here has seen that. I doubt I'll ever get around to it though.

Didn't the V-Wing from Star Wars have cluster missiles, as well as an ability to fire its lasers at an astounding rate for a short time (b4 they overheated :D )?
I believe this was in one of the N64 games for Star Wars, I forget the name. My friend had it and used to play it.
-
That was Rogue Squadron for the N64.
Yes it was the V-Wing... If you learned to time the shots
right you could have a nearly constant flow of lasers.
Gradius and Silpheed were two other blast-em shooters...
-
starfox had nova bombs. those things have a HUGE blast radius and no countermeasure evaision.
anywho, i can make a schump using special hitpoints.
special hitpoints: 0.0005

Does that include the Blossom? It doesn't look like it does.

I've got an idea! A mini-Sathanas! 8)
-
no, Sathanas looks too threatening.

Modified Pyro-GX?
If only I could find that old drawing of mine... another stupidly over-gunned sucker though...
-
One of those Pyros from the Pyro Inferno mod... or perhaps from the Pyromania mod.
-
whats the shield icon doing up there?
I wondered about that too...

I like that idea.

not enough guns ;)
-
Make it pink, nothing threatening is ever pink...
And call it Ms Sathanas (in Honor of Ms PacMan)... Wakka Wakka Wakka. (or in this case: "Skreee Skreee Skreee!"
-
not enough guns ;)
How many guns do you need, when you have 4 beams capable of ripping apart anything that comes at you?

12.
Plus.

count in flak and plasma as well. and then add the "player ship" , and pump all the attack power up to about 9999999. then retexture to include furry talking foxes in the bridge, pink flowers on the hull, and the words "star fox".

That question mark thing made me want to make something funny, so I made a space-faring car. I'll come up with a picture later.
From a long time ago, I know, but since it'll be good as a weak ship...

lols... do a search on a Daewoo Tico... when you find a pic, post back, and I'll tell you a joke.

Hmm?
-
Very good... just like I remember it.
Now, the joke:
In S. Korea, where these cars are made, there was a huge hurricane. Which was kind of a bad thing, because it swept all of the cars off of the loading docks by the harbor. There was only one car left, a Tico.
You know why it was left?
*waits*
-
Because it was so ugly?
-
cause the lucy asked mother nature for permission to finish it off?
-
Does Tico refer also to Ticonderoga-class cruisers used by US Navy? Since your joke is set in an harbour, maybe it can be that...
-
Heh, nope....

There was a piece of gum stuck under one of the tires!
-
...lollerskates!
-
I don't get it.
-
The car is so light, that just a wad of gum on the pavement was able to hold it down.
BTW, http://www.auto-pedia.com/car-crashes/display/5/10/48/1153/Daewoo/Tico
gives you some sense of their size (and vulnerability!)

like a fenris!

Ooof! I would not like to be the driver of that car. You could make the debris of my OKA look like that.
-
theres always the possibility of using that as a missle model.....
