I'm sorry I don't have any idea what to do.
I aquired a version of FS2 labled "FS2 SCP Full pack v15c" via torrent.
everything installs nice and fine, but when I try to play the game, it asks for CD 2...
Needless to say, I have no CD's. Yes I know pirating is wrong... but I couldn't find this game anywhere. What do I do now?
-
What are you launching the game with?
-
There's a launcher that came with it.
Labled:
freespace2
FreeSpace2 Launcher
Volition, Inc.

You've been listening to propaganda again, haven't you?
Anyway, you should get the latest version of SCP at the following thread. That should fix you right up.

Um I was just making sure people wouldn't jump on me about it...
I've been "aquiring" things for a long time
Thank you. I'll try it.

it's a .rar file
I don't know how to open that....
again I'm sorry. I really don't know what I'm doing. Hardware is no problem.... software drives me insane...
*edit*
Didn't know where to put it guys. Sorry.
-
Sorry to bother. Really I am, but I've been wanting to play this game forever... and I'm so close...
I don't know what to do now. I DL'd the 3.6.9 file... but it's a .rar file and I don't have any idea what to do now...
-
For opening .rar files get 7zip or equivalent. http://www.7-zip.org/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_archivers
-
Do I replace the launcher with this new one?
-
Extract the files you got from the 3.6.9.rar to your freespace2 directory. Run the new launcher (launcher.exe). Do not use the old volition freespace2.exe.
-
Thanks I got it working now.
Thanks a lot.

You're running the wrong exe. You should have been running launcher.exe instead of Freespace2.exe.

You ended up with the launcher on the left but you wanted the one on the right. Nonetheless upgrading is a good idea. 1.5c is a good version but it's based on the files from about a year ago.

I'm almost certain I did it right.
Either way it doesn't matter now. I upgraded, and it works.

if you want to play retail (or your computer is too old for SCP), tureys installer installs a cracked version that doesent nag you about cd's.

Get used to it. It'll be happening a lot now.

Eh, what are your computer specs? Download CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) (Download link is on top left of page), let it detect your specs. If your CPU is running 2 GHz or above, if you have 512 MB or more of RAM, and a decent graphics card, definitely install SCP. Links are in my siggy, as well as Turey's. If your specs are below the above, you probably can still install SCP. Post the specs here as an attachment (hit "Additional Options..." below the reply box on the left; if the link is not there, then press the "Preview" button first).
PS, if you have dial-up or a slow connection, let me know... hip63 got me a DVD that I can send you.
