Title: Supported .avi codecs? (for command briefing animations)
Post by: Ace on March 12, 2007, 02:07:53 am
I've found absolutely no documentation or mention of what .avi format is supported for command briefing animations.

I'd prefer not to use .ani due to its being 8-bit.

There is no AVI support for current versions of FS2 Open.

IDK if it allows for Theora CBanims or not.

So the ability to select a file with an .ani extension in the command briefing menu, and the few posts in the past about people using .avi instead of .ani are then inaccurate?

For the moment, .ani are all you can use for CB animations, as well as other interface and HUD elements.  Taylor will introduce a jpg-based video format which is intended for CB animations, though I'm not sure if it will work for other ani-based elements.  Taylor has indicated that this new format will see introduction by the time 3.7 is released.

Alrighty, so I guess I'll have to wait for 3.7 before I'm comfortable with releasing Twilight again.

Let alone BWO :p

So chop chop and zug zug!
