Title: So, I bought Call of Duty 2 for the PC last Saturday...
Post by: Cobra on March 12, 2007, 02:07:57 pm
And holy hell, it's a mind-blowing amount of fun. Sound and graphics are spectacular, and on a mid-range system like mine I can safely have DX9 rendering (aka higher detail models and textures, which apparently include kickass shinemaps), anti-aliasing x2 and and texture quality set to auto, which pretty much sets it on medium or high on my system.

Gameplay is phenomenal. And half of these battles I fight they're almost like battles for my life, even at Regular difficulty. :D The AI is pretty good, considering that it's never been decent before. Add WCP Reality and you have buddies that can shoot. :D You're never far from noise when you're in battle. I can actually tell what guns are being fired in the course of the battle, they all sound different. Not to mention every character in the area you're in, including enemies, shout like there's no tomorrow. Sometimes I hear my squadmates shout "I'm out! Reloading!" or "Krauts! Over by the <insert location here, sometimes "broken wall!" or "burnt out car!" or other locations>.  The Germans are always shouting, too, but since I can't understand German I don't know what the **** they're talking about. But they DO haul ass whenever there's a grenade nearby. I threw one and laughed as one Nazi quite literally went from the "bent forward as you run" pose to the "stand-straight-up 'I'M GUNNA DIE IF I DON'T GET MY ASS OUTTA HERE' running pose." He still died though, he met a hail of bullets from my Thompson. :D

All you folks who have the hardware and don't have this game, BUY IT. YOUR GODS COMMAND YOU. Seriously, you guys don't know what you're missing out on. No, there is no "Omaha Beach Landing" mission, but there's something better, but on the same date. June 6th 1944 was hell for these guys, though it wasn't as bad as the others. ;)

I liked the original CoD better  :nervous:

I like CoD:UO more. That mission in the B17 seriously rocks my socks, especially with a large sub hooked up on wooden floors. :D

Never played UO. CoD was badass, especially the Russian charges, but CoD2 has more of those. :D

Never played UO.
Get it. Now. Should only cost about fifteen dollarydoos, but it's quite worth it IMO. Hell, you get to fly in a freaking B17 for crying out loud!

I enjoy the Call of Duty series as a whole, excluding the various console exclusive titles. I think I played Big Red One a bit; it was okay.

The B-17 mission was great, but let's not forget the tank combat! I thought that was really well done too.

The best part on CoD 2 IMO was the tank missions with the british, a shame they were so few.

I preferred CoD; the sequel (not UO) is good, but somehow it feels a little more soulless to me.  Plus IMO the Russian bits are nowhere as good (sure, crossing the Volga was basically a disney ride, but it looked immense).

Plus, removing the run button from UO was a huuuuuuuuuuggggggeeeeeee mistake.

I like all the CoD games, but UO is defanitly the best. UO has some nice unique missions, and Cod1 has better gameplay than CoD2. Sometimes in CoD 2 it just seems like your guys are on this side of the street, the enemies are on the other side, if you leave your cover, you die. All you can do is sitt there and shoot the people only to have them get back up. Seriously, it's like wack-a-mole.

I obtained the PS2 version and it's sorta-sucky.

Indeed.  Never play a CoD on the consoles, they never turn out right. :ick:

The 360 version of both 2 and 3 were both excellent. Nither seemed to live up to the first one though. The "oh ****" moments were almost cliched :)

Yeah, that was an interesting mission, to say the least
