Title: Make Your Play!
Post by: IPAndrews on March 13, 2007, 05:59:15 am
Ok you're supposed to be a smart lot. Can any of you figure this out? It was a question featured on one of those late night phone in quizzes. It's probably easier if I just quote the article off the BBC's news site.

Quote
Ofcom confirmed it was looking into 30 complaints about an episode of ITV1's Make Your Play, which allegedly contained an unfairly difficult question.

A graphic asked viewers to "Add the pence" from "Two pounds, 25p, £1.47, 16p, Fifty pence".

More than three hours later, the host announced the answer was 506 and that no-one had won. No method was given.

By not converting the pounds to pence you could give an answer of 138 pences (or 91 if you don't count the 1.47 decimal side). Too vague a question.

Still, the 506 ammount is... intriguing.

Still, the 506 ammount is... bollocks.
Corrected. Well all know that latenight quiz shows are mindnumbingly stupid, so it's no surprise that their answer is completely different from, y'know, the right answer.

I didn't want to be as straightforward, but yes. :p

Using pre-decimalised currency it comes to approximately 924 pence...though the £1.47 doesn't really fit neatly into that system.

They didnt have money to give away to any 'winners' so they just bs'ed an answer. This happens every day, so why is this so different?

Because they've decided that it is fraud and they've decided to crack down on it. :)

In related news today. Phone in fixing on "Blue Peter". If they ever get around to a posthumous investigation of "Why Don't You?" it could be the end of ITV. Of course Blue Peter has a history of fraud with regards to it's young viewers so this should come as no surprise. Doing things like silently replacing the show's resident dogs when they die in order to "save it's young viewers from emotional trauma"  :nervous:. What else is going on behind the scenes of this show? Just how blue is blue peter?

Just ask Richard Bacon & John Leslie.
