This'll probably make ZylonBane happy. Granted it's not just the texture upgrades, but a couple hundred thousand people now get to see SS2 looking at new and shiny. Maybe we should try to get the same exposure for SCP.

thats sweet...maybe i should fire up system shock one more time...
-
Coolness :)
-
This makes me happy, probably scared ****less, but happy. I'd given up on any hope of SS2 modification like FS2 has seen, when the upgrade project was canceled. This is pretty good news here.
-
Should I run through SS2 solo, or wait until I can snag a couple friends to do it with?
-
Both
-
I should start playing it again... maybe finish it this time...

Ah, multiplayer SS2...good times. I remember me and my two friends playing through it...I was the marine, one was a psychic, the other was a tech. And, being the only one with any heavy armament, I'd threaten them with my shotgun if they refused to give me any ammo they found :D
Good times, good times.

This game doesn't like my Radeon 9550 anymore. I wish it like OpenGL, at least. Stupid Direct 3d and its texture memory issues.

alt tab out and set affinity to 1 cpu

Get a 9800 Pro for cheap like I did? That should be able to handle it at least.
-
considering the game runs great on a tnt2 he shouldnt have to
-
Probably not, but I had a 9550 and it was a POS (and I don't mean Player Owned Station). Just not a very good card, but it did transition me from my old GF4 Ti4200.
-
My game crashes at loading points. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It all seems very random. When it does work, my FPS is fine and everything is dandy.

Did you add safetexturemanager 1 to the ini file?

That might cause a problem...
EDIT: to which *.ini file and where in the file should it be added?
-
Create a file called user.cfg in your System
Shock 2 folder, or if the file is already
present, open it for editing.
Anywhere in the file enter the text:
safe_texture_manager
on a line of it's own. Save the file and run
System Shock 2, your problem should be solved.
If that doesn't work, try the various fixed here: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69958

I couldn't get this game to work stably on Nvidia cards at resolutions above 640x480, but ATI ones seem to run it okay. (after all the other necessary tweaks are used, that is)
-
I think it worked... I now loaded my game four or five times in a row without it crashing...

Might explain why I'm having trouble with my 6800GT? Maybe I should just live with low res.
-
Yeah, it only ran properly in 640x480 for me. If I increased the resolution, it crashed after a minute or two. You can crank up the AA to 4x4 to partially compensate for the resolution.
Alternatively, if you happen to have an older machine around with Win98/ME on it, the game will run flawlessly on that. All these problems inexplicably only occur on XP.
