Title: Into the Fire video!
Post by: Vengence on March 17, 2007, 02:27:57 pm
I'm sure some of you at LEAST saw some but I never had. Also some people may not have seen the videos either so I just decided to post this little find here:

I admit, those graphics aren't as good as the SCP engine anymore but I think I did notice some ships had more details on them than what we have. Just wanted to point out, there were lots of anti-Sierra comments there already so please do not spam this topic with anti-Sierra trash, do so over at that video.

There was some discussion about a higher detail model pack in the internal forum but no one has agreed on how it could be implemented, or even if it should.  Right now the most compelling arguments are for effort to be concentrated on ships we don't have in-game rather than sprucing up ones that are, for all intents and purposes, finished.

I see. That explains it then.

It's been a topic that has never really gone away over the years, and it is something at least a few people have been working on bit by bit even recently.  But like I said, the general consensus seems to be that priority and focus goes to producing new assets before revitalizing old ones.

I never wanted to say something like that, just point out that it was 'different'. I can imagine ITF would have been a great thrill to play, but things happen and I have TBP to fill in.

I think the models look fantastic as they are. Sure they could be more detailed but just because they're not doesn't mean they don't look class anyway.

I'd like to see, like you, more content, but in the form of missions and campaigns.

'So why don't You get off your ass and make some?' you ask?

That is an excellent question. Excellent.

With the number of B5 ships left to create dwindling down to almost nothing, more attention is being paid to missions and campaigns.  As you pointed out, we always could use more help there.

Hey, just lay off! I don't mind the models, I was just pointing it out! I do want more missions and campaigns too you know, I'm even trying to get the hang of mission scripting to make my own missions.

I'll keep working on an optional VP with high-poly ships, but that's mainly stuff to keep me occupied after 3.4 is out. The thread in the internal I made was just to get a status overview of what has been done so far, to prevent any unnecessary double-work.

I was hoping you'd speak up! :)  I didn't want to say too much in case you were keeping things secret, but didn't want to give the impression the idea had been killed altogether either.

It's not super secret, but I'm not posting it in the public forum since it's going to take quite a while until something is release-worthy, and I don't want to deal with the "When will it be done ?!?" pestering.

Indeed. As simple as it may sound, the sheer amount of times that question is asked can be utterly annoying. There is an old reply to that question: "When it is done!"
