Hello everyone...
I have a quick question, hoping someone here is kind enough to share the answer. :D
Basically, I put some very rapid-fire flak guns on the sides and top of the Orion. But for some reason, every time a bomber launches a Cylcops or Helios at me, the flak guns stop shooting, until the bombs are in their range or have been otherwise destroyed. There'll be fighters right in front of them and...nope, it's like the flak guns are too distracted by the warheads barelling at us from 10K out to do anything. I've been experimenting with tables for a while now, but for the life of me I can't think of anything in there that would provoke this reaction. I'm hoping its something dumb and obvious.

It's dumb and obvious, the turrets' priorities are changed when a a bomb is closing in. Once the bomb is gone, the top priority goes back to the bombers and fighters.
At least I think that's what it is, so I'm half-expecting someone to tell me I'm wrong and I look like an idiot. :D

Right. That's the problem, I'd rather have the flak guns STAY focused on the fighters nearby, while my longer distance beam weapons pick off the bombs. Don't know if it's possible to rig that with my limited tabling powers...

I didn't put that well when I first wrote it...the flak guns don't shoot at ANYTHING once the bombs launch, because the bombs are still out of there range for another 10-15 seconds. It's like they're waiting to shoot, but meanwhile they're getting strafed to **** by fighters.

At the moment one thing you could try is to use FRED to set turret target priorities in the mission. turret-set-target-order SEXP.

Gracias. There are so many goodies in the Fred 2 Open Event manager I have yet to catch... :P

Welcome to the HLPBB.
Viva los FREDders!

Thanks! It is AWESOME to see this game engine evolving. My head just about exploded last week when I finally downloaded the SCP files and saw them in action. I hadn't played Freespace in years, and this is just quantum leaps from what I remember. So I'm trying to polish off those old FREDding skills now...good to know there's a healthy knowledge base to turn to when needed.

no doubt, ive been playing freespace in one form or another since around 2001. it's just that good. I feel fred is one of the prime reasons for its longevity. i havent seen a level or edit system come nearly as close to it in any other game, with maybe the firepro series being a distant exception but thats a totally different game genre so it's kind of like comparing apples to grapes.
