Okay, no posting please unless your describing something you like / don't like / think should be changed. When you do, don't insult or even do anything besides flatly state your opinion. This will prevent trouble on this thread. Okay? If you must post something other than the above, make a new thread titled "Re: New Hard Light Format poll" or something similar.
Sound good? I hope so. Let's see what people think. (At least, people that read the pub... someone should put a thread pointing the modders over here, too...) EDIT3: I think I got that done. :nervous:
EDIT: Okay, and you all know what I think. The Meeting Hall should be open to everyone, unless they misbehave, then they get kicked, and have to ask to get back in. Also, the "Padded Cell", description "Stupid Stuff" should be changed to something a little less sharp, if you know what I mean.
EDIT2: Also vote here:
is this realy an improvement (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,46124.0.html)

Doesn't affect me one way or another. As long as I'm able to access the forums it's alright.
-
The change is stupid and pointless, re-arranging some forums isn't going to change the focus of the site. Now actively advertising about the sourcecode project... that would.
-
Second option. I like the basic idea of the changes but would make these corrections:
1: Move the Freespace category above Community Projects. (and under Important Stuff)
2: Move the support forum out of the important category and down to the bottom. It's not nearly active or significant enough to be up there.
I don't particularly care about the general sections, as long as they aren't near the top but are still accessible.
-
And apparently you missed http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,46124.0.html
-
The options in this poll are better. :p
-
Meh. You cretins argue about anything.
-
the only thing good out of this is this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,148.0.html) it isn't a perfict implementation, but it's a step in the right direction, the biggest problem I have with it is that it took a huge chunk out of the gendesc (I'm sad to see HL forum go but it seems that tradition is the least of our problems right now). if the changed everything else back, but left this and used it as a "from now on if you argue in a thread it goes here".
my main big complaint about this situation was that there didn't seem to be any comunity involvement in the desision, but apparently there was of some sort that I didn't have access to, the extent of this I do not know, but if I was left out I can't see how many other people (who aren't admin/mods) could have been.
-
I guess it was in the Support forum, which I guess is publicly available. (But I had no idea, or I would have participated.) Too many of us make use of the "Show unread topics since last visit" and "Show replies" links. :D Which is a good thing to do, but you miss out on some of this stuff until it slaps you in the face.
-
go look in the support forum and find the thread. unless I'm mistaken it's not there

I agree 100%.

This poll still doesn't give meaningful data. The only thing I can say for sure is, at the time of this posting, 10 people "hate" it, and 16 people have varying degrees of apathy towards it.
"Hate" isn't useful data, its emotionally driven, it doesn't tell you why you hate it. Bob, would you have hated it if Goob had asked you? Some of your reponses actually indicate that you might have been ok (or maybe even liked it) with it, if only somoene had sought you out for your opinion?
Neither of these polls get to root cause, or provide meaningful statistics. All I see here is a bigger number saying people hate it and smaller numbers saying they may like some or all of it.
-
Also, this poll has appeared in various forms all over the damn board!!
-
Not this poll. Links to this poll. So no one can scream "I didn't see it!!!"
-
If people are complaining about the movement of GendDis down to the bottom, it is because they have noticed GenDis is down the bottom and will see this thread, there's no point opening it to people who either visit both or have different priorities.
-
Double post, but as far as my point of view is concerned, certainly rolling down the page is no problem at all, the post counts and split forums (considering one of those spilts has 3 threads in total one of which consists almost entirely of :wtf: smileys) is overkill imho.
Now, I know many of the older users here are aware the HLP is NOT a Democracy, it's a benevolent dictatorship, hold your poll if you like, but compromise is going to come a lot faster if people actually calmed down, said their piece and stopped repeating it ad hominem all over the board.
-
The people who are complaining are sort of killing themselves. They're complaining that they have to scroll down to see the boards, and that people are leaving because of the change, but if they didn't spam about this as much they wouldn't need to scroll around as much, and as Flipside said, there might have been a compromise. And it's them who is splitting this forum. Recently I've seen lots of arguing and complaining. I'm pretty sure less people would leave if they weren't so disgusted at your peoples behavior over such a stupid thing.

...You must die I alone am best!
I hope ya flip some guy the bird,
He cuts you off and you're forced to swerve,
In front of the Beatles' tour bus,
A Bookmobile and a Mack truck,
Hauling hazardous biological waste,
The light turns red you have no brakes,
And "Hard Copy" gets it all on tape,
So you can see the look on your face,
...Die Die Die Die Die Die Die!,
...Die Die Die Die Die Die Die!,
I hope your Pinto begins to spin,
Takes out a disabled Vietnam Veteran,
Mows down a Nobel Peace Prize Winner,
And maybe some orphans having Christmas dinner,
Perhaps even the British Royal Family,
And the Rabbi that's clutching the bottle-fed puppy,
And we can't forget the newlyweds,
And those Jerry's Kids are as good as dead,
I hope this helps to emphasize,
I hope this helps to clarify,
I hope you die,
I hope your cellmate thinks he's God,
But C.N.N. refer to him as "Bowling Ball Bag Bob",
Serving time again for abuse of a corpse,
Only this time the victim's a Clydesdale horse,
While he masturbates to photos of livestock,
He does the "Silence of the Lambs" dance to Christian Rock,
Eats feces and quotes from "Deliverance",
And fights with his imaginary playmate Vince,
...Die Die Die Die Die Die Die!,
...Die Die Die Die Die Die Die!,
I hope he grins like Jack Nicholson,
And forces you to play a game called Balls On Chin,
And whatever happens next is all a blur,
But you remember "fist" can be a verb,
And when you finally regain consciousness,
You're bound and gagged in a wedding dress,
And the prison guard looks the other way,
'Cause he's the guy ya flipped the bird the other day,
I hope this helps to emphasize,
I hope this helps to clarify,
I hope you die,
...I hope you die!.
-
Well done.

Also, this poll has appeared in various forms all over the damn board!!
well were not sure were to post to get the main forum anymore. seeing as what was the main forum has been drawn, quartered, and draged to the four corners of Canada.
Bob, would you have hated it if Goob had asked you? Some of your reponses actually indicate that you might have been ok (or maybe even liked it) with it, if only somoene had sought you out for your opinion?
I wouldn't have been _as_ outraged. sort of depends on if I got the feeling there was genuine discussion or if it was a "well I'm the boss and I say we do it this way" attitude. and it isn't me specifically, it's that no one on the boards were asked how they felt, had I been part of the cabal that dreamed this up I'd have tried to get more people's opinions on the matter. afterwords when people were talking about how they felt there were mass thread lockings and deletions and the word from on high was 'live with it', or 'it's not up for negotiation'. I and everyone else is getting a great big 'up yours' from this forums administration right now _that_ is what's pissing me off more than anything, and it isn't the first time something like this has happened, that's why I am feeling like it might be time to spend less time here, I don't see why I should stay at a place were I, and everyone else, is treated like cattle.
and the time for a calm discussion about this was BEFORE it was implemented.
-
Well done.
I hope you die.
-
 I'm sure that will happen one day ;)
-
I hope you die young, is what I think he is saying. ;)
BTW I voted for hating it... :blah:
-
Too late for that, I went past young a while ago ;)
-
well sence your playing along with it...
...soon, maybe?
-
well sence your playing along with it...
...soon, maybe?
Naah, now. Right now. :P
-
That's useful.
-
They're merely justifying this places existence, that's all :)
-
Mah. Better not risk this thing getting closed.
-
well then you should try not to piss off cobra or char.
-
Whoa THEY're the mods of this forum. :wtf:
-
I just wish Modding wasn't so far down the list, myself. Can it be put in the same section as the SCP stuff? I have to scroll down down ten forums to get from one to the other - and they are often tightly connected.
Why is Modding over in the Freespace-specific section, and not the SCP section, anyway?
I'm not trying to be contentious. It just makes me wonder. As a modder who wants to keep updated on the various changes in SCP, and the various progress made by the modders, it seems to make more sense to have Modding with the SCP section. I may be wrong, though, or coming from a different perspective.
-
Modding makes sense in the Freespace category. It's just that the entire Freespace section needs to be higher up, above Community Projects.
-
Personally, I wonder if, rather than swap those two 'blocks', since Modding seems to cover ALL modding, be it Retail or SCP, that forum should be moved into the same group as the SCP itself?
Edit : I think the problem is both those groups sort of 'Interlink'.. They all sort of have something to do with the SCP.
-
Yes, both are in there - but, all mods done are FOR the SCP, almost.
Additionally, everything in the Modding forum IS a community project - either by, or for, someone in the community.
I think it makes more sense there. That's just me, though.
-
Locking this one too. *****ing about a new layout won't get it changed.
