Title: New Model, Race Review
Post by: Vengence on March 24, 2007, 07:59:55 pm
I have finally took the time to make this :D. This is the Taimari Neforus Destroyer, 4000 polies or so. Unskinned but that will change soon.

Neforus
Class- Destroyer
Length- 875 meters (pushing the minimum size of destroyer 850-1750 meters)
Armaments:
- 2 Heavy "Cutter" Beams. 45 second sustained beams (anti super capital ship)
- 12 AA "Ripper" Beams. 6 second sustained beams (anti fighter)
- 4 Medium "Shredder" Beams. 45 second sustained beams (anti capital ship)
Speed- FS2 relative: 160 (FAST!!!)
- Heavy Shielding
- Horribly weak armor.

The forward orbs are the heavy beams, the 2 rear are the 4 mediums, and the arms hold the 12 smaller AAs.

Taimari Review:
-The Taimari are the current record holders for being the oldest race in the galaxy who's recorded history dates from 20 Million-35 Million years ago. However despite being the oldest race, they are not as advanced as their age permits. The Taimari are nefarious for being somewhat slow learners. In fact, in the 1000 years since the Homeworlders knew the Taimari, the Taimari haven't advanced a bit in any aspect besides trade relations. They are rapidly loosing ground in the technology race against the Jha Oull who are rediscovering their lost and ancient technology once thought long lost. Polls agree that if the Jha Oull haven't fought  that horrific civil war and plummeted into a dark age they would have already overtaken the Taimari in technology.

Gameplay factors: The Taimari put tremendous emphasis on ultra heavy shielding and maneuverability while constantly eating away at enemy ships with their beam cannons. Their heavy beams are well known to be capable of sustaining a shot for nearly 3 minutes and smaller beams are known to last over double that time in a sustained blast. The shortest beam time recorded is about 45 seconds for their standard beam cannons. 45 seconds opposed to the Homeworlders record of 13 seconds for a sustained beam of equal power. When you fight them, expect to be sliced alot by constant beams from fighters. Though the beams are weak, if they can keep that beam on you for a while your dead. Homeworlder ships, however, are significantly faster and their missiles pack a mean punch.

I like it, but maybe try moving the head down a bit, and the small arms up. So the neck and arms are in sort of an S shape. As it is, it looks a bit flat.

looks like either a vasudan-shivan hybrid, but it could probibly work as ancient too. but sence its your own race i guess anything goes.

modeling looks pretty good though, has that combination between jaggedness and curvyness that i tend to favor.

Looks excellent however I hope those "holes" in hte front are cooling intakes or something and not missile/torpedo launchers cause then they will fire rigth into the arms......

I really like it. Please don't screw it up with dodgy textures (too many curvy, pointy ships get buggered up by their texs).

Indeed, it is my own race. I don't often let the designs of the FS races take a role in my designs.

More or less it was meant to be a little flat.

To be honest... I have no idea why I put those there :D. I wanted to break up the arms and somehow this idea came to my head :P.

Well this is a quick model job. I never knew I could model a ship this fast and some improvements will be done soon enough.

no they wont, the clearance looks about right. you just need to use the swarm hack and a long enough free flight time. the missiles will clear just fine.

I want to congratulate you slightly more than I envy you.  ;)

Anyway seeing that great design (raw-white) reminded me of a thing I had on the back burner.

Return of the Ancients: All models by Majaor Recal (with permision).

What do you think?

Yet another name???

Seriously TAKASHI, sit down and pick something and stick with it.

IF you want "Return of the ancients" then take it! Don't wait for me or anyone else, but at least show some consistency.

But keep in mind the concept itself of their return is already in INFERNO and no doubt other peoples' campaigns so it's nothing new...

To be original you really got to sit down and think of something you know has not been brought to the FS community before (in other words you need to do some RESEARCH and look at what others have done before not only on the GW and HLP boards but defunct ones like UNITED SPACE, VBB, etc...)

I really don't worry about trying to be original as I mainly do TC's and the ancient thing was just a whimsy idea. Even if I were to follow through with it that would not be any reson for others not to try the same thing (especially if they could do it better). But remember, ALDO was the first!

one thing that really bugs me, there seems to be alot of people in the community who make really good models yet never bothered learning how to texture them. or merely consider theyre texturing talents too weak for the job. im not saying it to be mean or anything and im not trying to single anybody out. but by merely modeling such ships as shown here, youve already demonstrated considerable artistic talent. such aptitude should make learning to texture a very easy and rewarding venture. i highly recomend putting the modeling program away and get photoshop/gimp/whatever, and seriously getting to know the program. hit the tutorials like mad and start making textures. then make the transition from really good flat colored polies, to totally awesome textured models.

Well Inferno doesn't have Ancients in its main campaign that's included in R1. The campaign that does include them, Inferno: Gateways, is far off. VERY far off. ;)

i always imagined the ancients to have less fish-like ships and more bug-like, sorta like they tryed to imitate the shivans. :\ might as well make a new species now.

back to the topic of the gua hah......y..tt..k...thingy destroyer.

Not very funny considering text can be copied and pasted :doubt:.
Taimari Neforus Destroyer. It is the smallest destroyer class vessel known and very little is known about it at all considering the Taimari don't go to war often. The most anyone saw was a Neforus effortlessly mowed through a dense asteroid field with little effort.

Ok, for those who doubt my power who doubt my power and skillz:

This model is NOT for FS2. It is for an RTS. I'm just demonstrating my modeling skill and skinning ability. This model is only 830 polygons. Insanely low given the detail of the model. The skin is incomplete as the whole underside is not done yet. I have another jet model that is only 300-500 polygons and looks freakin cool.
