Title: Getting behind here
Post by: Scooby_Doo on March 25, 2007, 05:47:06 am
I'm getting way behind in the builds, which builds allows any turret angle? I'm trying fs2_open_3_6_9.exe and it doesn't seem to support it.

If by "any turret angle" you mean sideways turrets, that was an experimental feature that was removed from CVS.  It was part of Bobboau's omnibus commit that had to be reverted because it broke a lot of stuff.

Any idea when it'll get reintroduced?

At this time there are no plans to do so.  But if someone writes a new version, or Bobboau separates it from the rest of his code and cleans it up, we'd be happy to re-add it.

@Scooby: I guess you should PM Bob and ask him if he minds doing so...

Yeah, yeah, I necroed a thread. Bad boy. I'm sick of starting new threads for one little question and I've started enough of those in the past few days. This was the closest thread I found in relation to the topic of mine in the search I did.

Anyway, with regards to turret angle. I've heard people talk about side turrets (ala the Hyperion from Babylon5). What sort of Turret angle is permissable for multi-part turrets? Can turrets only be placed on an absolutely flat horizontal surface? I understand that side turrets, which rotate on say the Z or X axis don't work, but what about turrets on a slanted surface? Are they bollocks too? Like if a turret was located on a surface with a 45' slant???

I believe you can have any angle, assuming you can figure out the front and up vectors for it.  I've only had good luck with 90 degree angle increments though

Didn't this get re-committed to SVN within the last month or two?  I thought backslash had done some work on that or something.
