Got me a new Dell 2007WFP and I love it! ;7
And what do you know, ol' FreeSpace SCP supports widescreen, only some HUD element get slightly stretched (doesn't bother me) but other that that everything else looks great (menus too)
Here's some screenies @ 1680x1050 (prepare the your druel bibs)

Do you get the target brackets moving incorrectly with your widescreen?
-
Not that I've noticed, I will look closer when I play again but I think I would have noticed that.
I certainly had no issue shooting the bad guys (Hit Ratio 35% got 10 bad guys in three missions)
BTW - I did no special tweaks, I simply chose the resolution from the drop down menu in the Launcher.
Hats off to the the FS Open crew!
Me Like! :pimp:

Humm... I thought using widescreen resolutions resulted in the problem that many of us are having... :blah:
BTW, you should go get Mars' special weapons pack for the FSPort, if you don't already have it. It improves upon the looks of most of the FS1 weapons.

OK, I just played the Herc II training missions & the FS2 mission where you first encounter the Shivans at the subspace portal thingy...
and the results?
2 Kills
2 Assists
46% hit ratio
Medal Awarded :pimp:
and the Shivans are licking their wounds :hopping: (do they even have tongues? :p)
All Targeting stuff seemed to be working just fine :D
Maybe 1680x1050 (16:10) is a magic number or something, maybe it's close to 1600x1200, maybe it's my SLI hardware, I dunno or maybe I'm just a lucky b@st@rd ;7
WhooHoo! Die Shivan Scum! :headz:

Get an ace and I'll praise you. However, my hit ratio's 19% (mostly because I shoot blindly into the void to see the pretty MVP effects :P)
-
Another thought I had, maybe something was corrected or changed in 3.6.9 that makes widescreen resolutions work better?
I dunno but whatever it is, my sh!# works 8)

Hmm.. interesting
-
Well, I've tested out widescreen whith Wing Commander Prologue and Battlestar Galactica Beyond the Red Line and widescreen is working perfectly in both :D
Unfortunately the Babylon Project latest offical build doesn't currently support widescreen yet but I bet it's coming soon

IIRC, you could try running the FSO 3.6.9 on TBP (copy it over) with the "TBP" option...

I just had to jump in here I guess...not sure if the OP understands what the targeting problem looks like. I notice it when running 1440x900, as a targeted ship gets closer to the edge of the screen, the targeting box moves more and more off center (towards the outside of the screen.) The OP might not actually be having this problem, but none of the screenshots here that I saw really determined that one way or another. It doesn't bug me really all that much, but does make me wonder if the gun-leading reticle is really in the right place. I am not sure what version I have but I just did the whole online installation thing yesterday.
Otherwise I am pretty pleased with my experience with the game so far. Running an older 2GHz machine, 6600GT card, everything turned all the way up and no problems with framerate or anything.

It's not just the targeting box that shifts
the skybox does too, I was playing BtRL and the asteroid skybox does not move in sync with the starfield when you turn
Also, the green jump node frames shift around too
-
Yeah its the jump nodes flying around all over the place that is the most annoying part of the widescreen weirdness. Seems like the only solution for now is to fix a 4:3 aspect ratio.
-
seriously, I have not encountered any video weirdness yet with my widescreen in FSSCP. I don't know why but I have not had any issues as described accept in BtRL with the star on on the other side of the asteroid field, it moves about a bit but all the targeting stuff has worked fine for me so far. I'm running @ 1680 x1050 (16:10), anybody else here able to run at the resolution & confirm?

OK after more playing, I'm not ticing this issue but only at far ranges, at mid to close range, it works proper
still not enough of an issue for me for me to fore go widescreen, I still love it in widescreen FSSCP

<_<
Anyways, the number of stars(2000, I assume) ruined the screenshots.
