Here are the rest of the Terran destroyers rendered with Brazil (I know that Colossus are both terran and vasudan).

All images are in 1024x768 and about 400 kb each.

brazil is a plugin renderer for 3dstudio MAX
its not finished yet- currently in a "public beta".
The next version will be released sometime in the next 2 weeks, and be much faster on these sorts of scenes.
The finished version should work as a standalone renderer and work with 3dsmax, maya, lightwave et al eventually.

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!!

D-U-D-E-!!! Very good looking! Can you do that with the Vasudan ships, and the Vasudan carrier I did? Give me your email address for the file if so.

Man... these renders make me wish they had model kits for these ships. I would be so cool to have one sitting on my desk like Bosch did in that one cutscene.

Damn those are cool. I love the Colossus.
And Brazil is for LW too, right? It was at last check. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
The weird thing is... these renders backgrounds are dull, the textures on the ships... aren't there - And yet they r0ck!

I think that's exactly what he was aiming at, but never mind heh?

Brazil at the moment are just for Max. This next is part is taken from Splutterfish FAQ.
"Q: Will Brazil run in maya, lightwave, xsi, rhino, [put your app here], etc.....
A:We hope Brazil will eventually run on many different platforms and within many different applications. Whichever direction Brazil goes, there will have to be a demand for it."
Sandwich: My e-mail is [email protected] Send your ship and I'll render it.

Yeah. It's that lack of textures and a space backdrop. That white texture makes them look like something molded out of plastic or even constructed with thick paper. And the lighting makes them look like they're sitting on a table.
It so makes them look like something you'd want (I know I'd want) sitting on your desk. And that's what I think makes them look so cool. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Artimus was telling me (a while ago) about how he was going to construct his own WhiteStar and then send it to some toy company which would make a scale model of it, for him to paint. All the company needed was the model and a picture supplied.
Is anyone thinking what I'm thinking? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
-
No Setekh! get this out of your mind!
-
Good Idea Setekh! Though Companies would not see it as a profit but a downfall. As the Freespace2 community is small compared to that of Babylon5 the chance of selling 1000 models is extremely low. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif) Unlesss.....you buy a 1000 yourself! and so does everyone else.

Do i really want to know what this is about?
Anyone whos trying brazil, check out www.neilblevins.com, ("http://www.neilblevins.com,") he has a bunch of tutorials up on there under the "CG education" section.
Happy rendering (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

You post your old renders in these threads, I never mention them (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Of all of them the Orion looks most like an actual glue and plastic model...but they all look cool.

Yeah, but those are my pieces of work. You didn't render that kangaroo, did you? I think not... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

I still want to see all of the destroyers done this way.

do i detect a bit of radiosity in that?
-
Radiosity is a very inefficient form of Physically-correct lighting done by subdividing the mesh.
It takes for ever and generally sucks.
Brazil, Final Render, Mental Ray and most "fast" renderers use something called "monte carlo" simulation which works much like raytracing. (also referred to as Final Gathering)
Photon Mapping is yet another method but its getting a little long in the tooth because unless you have a HUGE amount of photons you can see circular artefacts on the geometry.
-
Those look quite neat, but this thread is so old... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
