while playing around with ipod linux on my sister's nano, i accidently discovered rockbox. it was on the things to install list in the manual so i installed it and i was hooked. besides having an asteroids clone (spacerocks) as well as doom, it also get drve letter access and a cool backdrop among other features. i am now forever free of itunes! yay!!!

Yepp Itunes is why I didnt buy myself an Ipod, Bought a new cell phone instead so I can play MP3 on that
-
all my suitemates use itunes. when they ask me to fix their computers, i offer every time to take it off.
apparently its pretty entrenched, as they refuse to let me.
its all a bunch of proprietary bull****

Itunes = vomit

i put podzilla onto my ipod today (figured what the hell, i needed to wipe the thing cause all the videos became corrupted), and it now dual boots but i cant get it to play music under the linux boot... guess i'll keep trying
-
I've got rockbox for my iRiver H140. Made me reconsider upgrading to a new player. I now have playlists.
It's taking a bloody long time for a 'stable' release to come out though.

Creative Zen + WinAmp for the win.
-
I use iTunes only for updating/synching my iPod, because that way I can get my stats to Last.fm. If there is another way of sending iPod stats to Last.fm, I'd be happy to know.
-
yep, rockbox is definately staying. i tend to find podzilla alot less useful, while its cool and all it just doesnt seem to have the music focus that rockbox does. then again i never ran ipod linux on a supported model, so i might just be missing something.

I listen music in my head almost all the time. So I win. ;7
Seriously, I can playback most of my favourite music inside my brain. So can my little sister. I can audiolize a symphony orchestra recordings for the most part... popular music is much easier to remember (and the songs are shorter).
The problem is that the music industry has already began to apply fracking annoying mental rights management patches to most musick. It mostly sucks so much that I can't remember it for long. Music that was made before I was born is generally best, so I think they have started to use MRM technology more and more recently, starting from the 80's, and culminating in 90's music. There's only a few music makers that I can actually listen these days. I think I was born 30-40 years too late. :(
I fear that some day they will outlaw remembering the music and movies and playing/watching them in your head by thinking about them... What am I gonna do then? :shaking:

Well they will proberly just scope out your brain with a spoon and then refill the void with foam that way you will have as much in your head as some of their starts ......

iPod + Winamp music player plugin for me.
i still use winamp, but i transfer my files by copying them directly to the ipod, and build its library through rockbox.

zune = worse experience than itunes.
Seriously, when it comes to proprietary software, Apple has got thier **** together. The Zune is a pretty good device (amped up Gigabeat with replacable firmware) but the software is a nightmare. Funky DRM + WMV media + Crippled Activesync = Zune software. I've owned both an ipod Shuffle and a Zune, and itunes never EVER gave me as much grief as Zune has.
-
while apples software works, it clearly was not designed for a pc. itunes is the most unresponsive piece of crap out there. it takes awhile for it to do something that winamp could do instantly in the background with max and photoshop on top of it. in the future when i buy mp3 players, im really only gonna look at 2 factors, how much it can hold, and wether or not it can run rockbox :D
