Froget R1, has nothing to do with the new releases
I made INFA as I was bored... really bored and wanted to make something FS1ish. It's an INFSCP prequal
INFSCP is the main INF mod, and will be split into several chapters.

This one's interesting.

INF SCP is an alternate version of Inferno R1, but much more better.

i hear it scrapped some nice ships (vesuvius, ect)

they  looked HTLish even though they were low poly.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Woomeister on April 14, 2007, 12:56:05 pm
Well there actually is a higher poly version of the Vesuvius in Aldos modeldumps, but it needs textures.

the actual model is ugly. just to much of that "pieced together" look.

What can you expect from a fighter able to launch torpedoes?!?
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Raven2001 on April 19, 2007, 04:37:33 pm
I hate to say this... but I actually agree with Takashi on this one... the original looked much cooler than this HTL version

Id change the gun barrels and the side wing\pod transition on it... where can I get a hold of that model?
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Mobius on April 19, 2007, 04:46:10 pm
Well, I would prefer the HTL model...a textured one, however.

I get your point. This HTL version seems a bit "incomplete", so the low-poly version may look better for you.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Raven2001 on April 19, 2007, 04:51:39 pm
It isnt incomplete (well, perhaps except for the lack of cockpit), its just the odd proportions\stuff placement on some parts

Do you folks have it with ya? If you could send it to me, I can see what I could do with it on both model and texture (cause I really liked the original tbh)

pof2cob the original and add detail then ^_^

Aldos modeldumps which I think you can get off Hades Combine. It should be in dump 5 or the last one. It's already UV Mapped but onto two textures.
I'd sent it to you, but I'd have to find it first on either my external drive or my laptop...

Looking at what I assume is the cockpit on that model (the reddish-brown bit?)...I wondering how the pilot could see anything in front of him?? I mean it has great lateral vision, but the nose rises up right in front of the cockpit?

You don't have to revamp the model. It's scrapped now.

because it looked strecthed becuase the texture map is so small.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Raven2001 on April 21, 2007, 09:34:09 pm
Probably it looked stretched due to lack of UV mapping...
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?

Do the textures look like the old ones? Are you modifying them?
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: takashi on April 22, 2007, 12:13:19 pm
i hope. the old ones looked hires compared to the ugly archon and melanos.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Snail on April 22, 2007, 01:17:20 pm
IIRC the only reason the Archon and Menelaos were so damn ugly was because their UV was horrible and they referenced :v: maps... Oh, and they were super low-poly too.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: takashi on April 22, 2007, 01:52:59 pm
i dont think the polys made a difference. the vesuvius was super low poly and it looked good.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Snail on April 22, 2007, 02:16:04 pm
The Archon and Menelaos were so low poly that it could pass as a lower LOD of the Herc and Ares.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Mobius on April 22, 2007, 03:40:50 pm
They were intended to be low poly....they're packed war machines, a shape like the one of the Herc I, the Herc II or the Ares would make it look vulnerable.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: takashi on April 22, 2007, 06:09:10 pm
but were the terrible lo-res textures nessecary? (saying its a retail kod is not an option. the vesuvius has hi res textures.)
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Mobius on April 23, 2007, 10:33:39 am
Both the Menelaos and the Archon use textures of the Herc II and the Ares, respectively(if not, change them using Modelview).

I wouldnt say those ships look vulnerable... on the contrary, they look the sturdiest fighters in the game (the Hercs and the Ares I mean)

They look vulnerable...their cockpit is easy to hit, causing the pilot's death.

Of course, there are no "pilot life system" subsystems to destroy...I was considering a realistic environment. The Herc's shape makes attacks on the cockpit pretty common.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Raven2001 on April 23, 2007, 06:42:29 pm
yeah but dont overdo functionality, forgetting eyecandy

Sure the Hercs have that blobby cockpi around, but they DO look sturdy as hell: their compact designs, with the various parts welded on large areas... you cant get more sturdy than that :P
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: takashi on April 23, 2007, 06:42:53 pm
the SCP should code in special support for the "cockpit" subsystem. blow up that and kill the pilot! (disable nav, weapons, and comm at the same time)
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Dark Hunter on April 23, 2007, 06:59:43 pm
Sort of like headshots cockpit-shots in Mechwarrior?
(Those who haven't played, it was pretty much an instant kill since cockpits didn't have much armor, but they were small and insanely hard to hit. At least in Mechwarrior3.)
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: takashi on April 23, 2007, 07:05:29 pm
yep.
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Mobius on April 24, 2007, 01:53:37 pm
Adding such subsystems is easy to do. An event will ensure that a fighter with the "cockpit" destroyed is completely disabled and disarmed.

actualy, engines keep going when a pilot dies. think of the magic spots in BSG. theres one for everything for engines. it IS near the cockpit.

The destruction of the cockpit means the complete malfunction of all systems...

Doesn't the engines never turning off and the ship never slowing down count as a malfunction? :p
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: takashi on April 24, 2007, 08:35:20 pm
how can alpha one (or beta 2.) turn off the engines if he/she is dead?
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Dark Hunter on April 24, 2007, 10:16:44 pm
Ummm.... that was precisely my point. :)

LGM said that cockpit destruction causes all kinds of malfunctions, arguing that the cockpit being destroyed would disable the engines. I was trying to say that the engines, rather than be disabled, would simply be "stuck" in the on position, since the controls to slow down would be turned off. [/exhausting explanation I thought was blatantly obvious]
Title: Re: so whats the whole plotline diff?
Post by: Mobius on April 25, 2007, 07:20:28 am
I know that...but how can you represent that particular condition?

The cockpit is down, the engines could still be ok and the fighter continues on its previous path.... something hard to represent in game.

No. No one really wants to download a ship just to play a single mission. Use the Herc2. It has a cockpit.
