I read all that stuff about Google ads, and I want to be enlightened.
Basically, if someone clicks on ads without actually buying stuff will cause Google to do what, exactly? Ads will be removed, so the community has to pay more for HLP?
Google ads disappeared for a while because of some members, that clicked ads a lot?

I read all that stuff about Google ads,
I can't help you with that. :(

AFAIK if google interpets clicking to be inhumanly frantic, it may cause "it" to believe it's not a human clicking there. Generally if one clicks things he finds interesting it's okay. But if you have your bunnies hump your mouse button, it's cheating.
It's the clicks that matter.
-
But what does Google do exactly? It removes the ads, so members have to pay more?
-
Yes. If users abuse the ads system then it's removed by Google - which means we can't get any money from it.
If we can't get any money from it - we need to find another source to keep things running.
-
DO NOT abuse the ads
if you do, this site gets no income and thus no money to pay server fees
-
Ok, I have no intention of bringing HLP down...
Do you know the names of members that click on ads? They can be tracked, Google knows their address?
-
Of course they know it's you! You can't fool the Google!
Any day now. When you're sound a sleep, the search bots will sneak in to your home and... Oh, I dare not say.
Seriously. I don't think they care that much. I don't think they even monitor clicks coming from individual ip's.
And why would anyone in HLP want to know them? I guess they could be oppressed a little. The admins work in mysterious ways...
-
I believe they know, but it's only when they get a large number of clicks coming in and it's obvious that someone somewhere is simply spamming the system - that's when there's a problem.
So please don't do it :)
-

They don't know the names, that's part of the forum, not the Google ads. They probably do know IP address, though.

Got it. Thank you for the info.

Oh yeah? What are ya going to do about it if i DO! Na nana nanaaa naaah! >)

K, you're banned for two days for even thinking about it. :p

No ":p" about it. Oh, and did you make sure to tell him why he was banned? I don't know if a banning would prevent him from seeing the reason posted here...
-
Wow, you did actually ban him. Here I was thinking you were just joking ;)
-
And what have we learned here, boys and girls?
Don't. F*ck. With Goob.
-
I don't know if a banning would prevent him from seeing the reason posted here...
There's "Reason" text field in ban management for a reason. :p
Wow, you did actually ban him. Here I was thinking you were just joking ;)
Same here. Kudos to him for doing that though. LieutenantGeneralMobius already was suspicious for posting this topic in the first place.
-
Well - not to get all preachy - but we can't over-emphasize how important it is that people don't mess with the ads.
There, lecture over. Todays episode was bought to you by the letter "C" and the animal "duck".
Quack.
-
And what have we learned here, boys and girls?
Don't. F*ck. With Goob.
Well said. :nervous: (Runs to a very far corner.*)
-
Of course, now he might just click the ads to spite you. :blah:
-
I think the admins are joking... Mobius never had the intention of bringing this forum down...
-
And what have we learned here, boys and girls?
Don't. F*ck. With Goob.
Can I replace "Goob hates us all" (((don't ban me, it's under the fanclub! :shaking:))) in my signature with that, please? :D
-
I think I'm the victim of a terrible misunderstanding. HLP has become my favourite forum, I don't want to "hack" it. I wanted to know the consequences of clicking on Google ads since I wanted to play Pardus and clicked on its link. That is all. I'm also aware of all the problems we had with Google and the other server.
I'm sorry...
...if you ban me, I won't click on the ads. I like this community too much - I will never damage it...
-
If you see something you're interested in, by all means click it. I clicked on that weird 3d chat thing because I wanted to see what it was. But don't click just for the sake of clicking. It's fine to follow a link if you're curious; it's not fine to follow every link every day because you want HLP to make more money.
The ads are doing very well for us right now. Don't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. :)
EDIT: And yes, for you admins who are too lazy to check the ban panel, I told Charismatic what the reason for the banning was. :p
-
Ok, Goober. You may lock this thread now...if you want.
I told Charismatic what the reason for the banning was. :p
Spamming?
-
Can't he still see the forum index plus the ads?
-
IIRC, a banned member can only see a message stating reason for the ban. Unless he is still able to browse as a guest, which depends on ban settings.
-
So I am banned. Wow
-
:wtf: And where you got that idea from? No you are not and you posting further proves that. It was Charismatic who got banned by Goob.
-

I wondered the same. Some of the ads actually seem to reflect the content of the threads now. Eg, that thread about getting a new car, an ad for a Cadillac shows up. pretty cool.
-
Wow Goober really is scary. :shaking:
All the more reason to praise him!!
-
quick! post the fanclub join link!
PRAISE GOOBER!
-
:wtf:
-
:wtf:
Why you don't delete this thread? I know what I wanted to know and we don't want to indirectly "inspire" someone, right? ;)
-
*is inspired to take down enimies of HLP...and me*
-
Locked.
And for those who somehow missed the point of this thread, it is, once again, do not abuse the ads by clicking on them repeatedly or consistently. Do follow up on ads that you are interested in. In the words of a world-famous swine, "That's all, folks!" // Sandwich
