When trying to run FS2 open, I got the error "Openal32.dll could not be located". After googling this, I found the file and put it in system32. Now it says "The procedure entry point alcGetString could not be located in the dynamic link library OpenAL32.dll"
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?

Delete the DLL you downloaded, then go get OpenAL for real (http://www.openal.org/downloads.html).

Yeah do what Turey says, or better still use his FS2 Open Installer to do it for you...
And......
:welcome:
Another kill for me and one less for LGM
and I don't even count mine  :P

thanks guys. I used turey's installer again, and I guess last time I missed the message telling me to download it. Btw, thanks for the welcome. I've been playing Freespace since it came out. I was 8. Love the game, and I was ecstatic to find out about FS2 open, FSport, etc.

Don't forget to check out all the wonderful user-made campaigns out there and all the new shiny total conversions
(i.e Derelict, Flames of War, JAD(Just Another Day), JAD2(Self explanatory), DEM(Deus Ex Machina), Sync, Transcend e.t.c. for the former and Beyond The Red Line (Battlestar Galactica mod), Wing Commander Saga Prologue and the Babylon Project for the latter plus many, many more) :D

Thank goodness for Google! Been forever since I've been on here, but I had to reinstall windows on my PC recently and lost all my FS2 stuff. Just trying to get it back up and running now and I've got the same problem. Went to the site you guys mentioned but its prompting me for a password to download openAL for real?...........?

That's the download you want.
Ironically, it's found rather easily if you just type "OpenAL" into the Google search field....

Awesome, thanks, Big E!
