Title: HLP support for Freespace MODS other than FS2 platform?
Post by: mattivanhanen on April 27, 2007, 03:45:21 pm
I've ported Freespace 2 to Starshatter: The Gathering Storm platform ( www.starshatter.com ). Does this exclude the possibility of getting the project hosted under HLP? :(

Welcome to the HLP!! :D

Well HLP does not host projects anymore because it hosts too many already, apparently. But I say that HLP should open up its doors to new projects and start hosting again. But for now, you'll have to make do with the huggly Sectorgame. :)

Thank you very much. I've been a silent supporter for this community (and the FS genre) since 2002 and I think this you people have done a marvelous job! However, here is some links and pictures of my proect for you guys to chew on. I'll be opening the FSO game site within the next few days, possibly in the beginning of the May. However, I have one question about the HLP Wiki. Is it okay to reproduce some of it's contents on my own project website wiki (with disclaimer stating credits to whom they belong) to provide a reliable source of FS information from the perspective of my campaign? Material of my own origin is mostly non-canon and therefore I'd rather choose not to mess up the HLP wiki with it. :)

------------------------------

A couple of years back I commenced a project of creating a Freespace total conversion MOD for the Starshatter. The project is now nearing it's completion and has grown from the original concept into something much more than just a MOD. There has been a void for a space simulation/economy game hybrid. In FSO, you may choose a faction (from among six different human and vasudan factions) to create your own fortune by allying, using diplomacy or by conquesting other players in a PvP clan war manner.

In FSO, you create and manage a spacefaring faction of your own, interact with other players and non-players and commence trade via a browser-based economy game system (see the screenshot links below). Do you believe to have what it takes to be not only a pilot but also a successful base commander?

Screenshot: FSO Base (http://www.students.oamk.fi/~t3vama03/fso_base.gif)

FSO Trailer: Sethnakte Tefibi decimates Bubu Ra's domain from the face of the galaxy (PvP event) (http://www.students.oamk.fi/~t3vama03/fso_trailer.avi) (53M .avi {divx})
Lesser quality version of the same video in YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RNG855dydg)

The project is completely non-profit.

Edjo class sentries. The guy had bought a dozen of them to protect his domain. However, they were wiped out rather quickly.  :headz:  :D

What, you referring to other Finnish government personnel? I'll keep that in mind in next elections... people who like space sims can't be bad people to rule a country. :drevil:

Welcome to the forums...  :P

Alpha 2: Damn it, the takashi's changed its signature again! Command, we need a new flame here!!
Alpha 3: It's also changed its custom text, it's just modifying its profile too fast, we can't get a good insult!
Command: The one thing it can't change is its username. We're thinking up of puns of the word takashi now, pilots!

By the divine decree of Flying Spaghetti Monster, I hereby declare this:

Know this, o forumites of the internets: Spam is a sacrilege to His Holy Noodlyness, and He will never relent in His post-humous smiting of those who send Spam to His Domain. His Noodlyness prefers His tubes clean, not clogged by asinine spam. Besides, spam is and never has been comparable to proper Spaghetti in tastyness. He, however, understands that some may have had flawed upbringing due to the fact that His Noodlyness made himself known to world only a couple of years ago, and thus wants to offer choice to salvation to anyone who wishes to repent and abandon their previous lifes if spam.

Please, guys... at least keep your spamming in the Pub. This is... or was... an interesting topic.

You have spun my interest in StarShatter. Downloading demo of that game now... Maybe it even proves to be good enough to buy (and subsequently try this TC if/when you manage to get it ready). :)

I already have Starshatter TGS. I had some difficulties at the beginning (for example had problems switching on the ILS or landing in atmospheric missions), but now I have improved in flying fighters (no, I can't still fly capships and carriers properly... :nervous:).

This means I'll download your TC as soon as it is finished. :D

I guess the Ground-Zero for the FSO will be the first days of May. Three campaign missions (of 100 planned storyline missions) will be included in the first version. I have this wicked plan that sorties after the three introduction ones have to be bought using the campaign-earned (the browser play) FSO credits.  :drevil:

Two FSO Screenshot(s): Orion launching a fighter and Typhon class firing a deck beam.

If you convert the models, give em a quick touch up. The Orion looks far too blocky to be compared to other ships.

Absolutely!

...if I am given a permission from their authors (as being non-Volition material) to use them in my project. Agree on that they are dead gorgeous. Their implementation task however is a secondary one on my to-do list - there are some more important tasks to do first - but I will give my word on that they will be implemented later on.   :)

I would also be interested in using the Inferno Campaign models.

Yea, because it was just Woo that made all of Inferno . It'd be best to PM Woo so he can contact the individual modelers on the team, or you can look up who did what and ask them directly. :)

Very impressive. ;)

You may use all effects I made for FS2 and all high-res maps I made.

All the people that contributed to the MV packs offered their work. I doubt anybody wouldn't allow you to use a model or texture.

Feel free to post in our very own Inferno Night Cafè. You can get informations about the models you want to use, if you need some :)

Thanks, I will. I've been having some temperature so it has delayed the opening a bit. But as I get better, I'll see to the Night Cafe. There is still some work to do with the tactics level tool. I want everything to be ready. :)

I'm finally starting to get better!

While ripping my hair off in trying to create a somewhat more realistic version of the Freespace Node Map contra reality, I used my amateur astronomer knack to produce a little spreadsheet to plot stars. I cannot believe there's no decent tool for doing this in the web. This spreadsheet is a one-way converter of right ascension, declination and distance (light years) into XYZ coordinates originating from the Sol.

Now you can create more accurate models of the Freespace universe.

I conquered the vile disease! The development may continue. Still two more *s on my todo list before opening beta. If everything goes as planned I'll solve the first one today, and the second one in sunday, so I should be all set by monday.

The so-called "storyline missions" are all single player. They kinda familiarize the player with the campaign world and to the multiplayer economy game world. The first public version of FSO contains three single player missions. My plan is to produce 50. The idea would be to play storyline missions AMONG the multiplayer game. That's why you need credits acquired in the multiplayer game to get your hands on the storyline missions after the initial three.

On the other hand, multiplayer missions are unique and each is grafted uniquely based on the situation at hand in the economy game.

I guess it's a little off-topic, but I have to ask: is it worth buying SS:TGS? I played the SS closed beta way back when, and I liked it, but the capship AI really irritated me and some other things like fighters crashing instead of landing just didn't make it seem worthwhile to spend money on. I'm not sure how much of that has been fixed by now, but I understand that a lot of it is still in there.

well idk it depends on what u like but it might be good to  try out the demo before buying it, but btw u dont need SS:TGS to play FSO online cause it also has a somthing like a forum based game in it
