Title: MOD updates (for any mod)
Post by: LtNarol on February 03, 2002, 10:04:00 pm
hi everyone, while reading the thread about the HL forum splitting, i came across someone's idea for news here at HLP, put it all into one long sticky thread.  So here it is, a thread for any Mod updates or otherwise mod related news.

Thanks for the thought but we're considering getting vB so we'll not be implementing the forum changes for a while  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Ummm.. I don't think HLP supports sticky threads; or am I missing the point?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

HLP currently doesn't support sticky threads. But once we've worked out the details we hope to end up with a lot of useful stuff for the forums - sticky threads being one of them.

Important threads stay at the top of the page.

Y'all have probably gone a long ways already towards getting things converted to vB format, but have you taken a look at http://www.phpbb.com/ ("http://www.phpbb.com/")  ? Their v2 forums ("http://phpbb.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/"), while still under development, are in an RC2 state, and are quite powerful. Best of all, it's free!   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I personally prefer UBB to either of those; how come we are changing? The latest UBB version is very nice though (used on the SSC boards) and I would definitely recommend it. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Well for the following reasons...

1) We have been hacked by someone who shall remain nameless, but almost everyone knows who... and shortly afterward we were made aware of some potential weaknesses in UBB6...

2) With a PHP+MySQL based BB system such as vB or phpBB (thanks for that possibility, sandwich), I can make some very cool additions (which I'm not going to mention here no matter how much you might beg) that would not be possible otherwise...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
