Title: A newbie render
Post by: CP5670 on January 31, 2002, 02:34:00 pm
My first render that is even worth posting! Yay!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

It isn't too great, but let me know what you think.

These are two of my earlier ones. For those of you who have played my campaign's test release, the first one might look familiar.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) The second is a logo I made for the enemy regime in my FS2 campaign; not exactly a render, but what the heck.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

You need to work on the lighting in the first one, but otherwise  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/icons/icon14.gif)

Would you be interested in doing some render art for our future website or some banners maybe?? by render art, i mean space battles with FS cruisers and things vs stations of various sorts, by banners i mean render style but with logos, maybe make us some rendered buttons for the site or something!

Hey, that's all that some people have.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Looking great, CP, and a hell of a lot better than my first few tries!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

LOL the lighting is all messed up in that one; it appears that, in addition to the star, there is a huge floodlight brightening up the ships from the front. I guess that it could be attributed to a luminous gas giant that is right behing the camera... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Actually I decided to brighten up that area since the ships were too dark to be visible otherwise. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Yeah, the Glitterato backgrounds look somewhat blurry, don't they? It was the best thing I could find though. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) Universe's nebulas don't look very good at all IMHO. I was going to use FS2 itself and grab a screenshot there but that didn't look too great either. Anyone know of a better solution for stellar gas images?

The first two were done with 3DS MAX and Paint Shop Pro (along with several plugins) was used for all three.

Sure, I might be able to do something there; let me know what you need. I'm not very good at this stuff though.

Don't use Universes nebula tool, use the gas cloud tool instead. With the right settings and colors used you can get nice backgrounds  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

What did you use to create that background?

I used a couple of the common plugins in PSP for that: Glitterato, LunarCell and Universe. It took some work to get the effects positioned correctly, though. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
