Installed Freespace 2 (which worked), then used Turey's installer to install the SCP, but everytime I try to open anything from the SCP, I get an error:
"This application has failed to start because OpenAL32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem"
Tried re-install, didn't work. Thought it had something to do with "lurking OpenAL drivers" so I tried to delete them, but I couldn't find them.

I'm sorry.
I'm an idiot for not seeing a sticky...
-
Glad you found the problem. :)
:welcome:
-Enjoy your stay.

Did you read the notes at the end of the install?

A cautionary tale for the rest of us. :)
At least you got it solved. Have fun playing the game. :)

hi. i'm still an idiot, and a complete noob. i did the instalelr for FS2 open. i ran into the same problem as Jagazaar in the Issues with FS2 Open Installer? (long) thread. after following the link for OPENAL that jr2 replied with, i get to Creative's page. when i try to download the executable, Internet Explorer comes back with "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I can't get OpenAL32.dll to download from that site. did i miss something? i'm running an AMD64 in Windows XP Pro. thanks

I am having the problem "...OpenAL32.dll was not found..." and can't figure out how to fix it.
-
The OpenAl Installer (http://developer.creative.com/articles/article.asp?cat=1&sbcat=31&top=38&aid=46&file=oalinst.exe)
1. Download it.
2. Install it.
3. Play teh game.
It'll fix your TBP problem too.

The OpenAL installer got updated for the summer. Just thought I'd mention that.
-
Hmm.. saved me the trouble of mentioning it. :D

SUPER! That was just what I needed. Though I did a reboot after the installation the game was "wonky".
But after another reboot JOY.
So I'll start playing :)
Thanks.

I have downloaded the dll but where do I put it? What is the directory?

Preferrably you should use the OpenAL installer available at Creative Labs' website (http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/oalinst.zip).
Since you've asked about this, and other things, elsewhere, I'll lock this thread.
