Title: Force feedback not force feeding
Post by: jusjus on May 14, 2007, 04:41:31 pm
I have a Microsoft sidewinder pro but am unable to get any force feedback from it. I can, however, bind controls and fly around without any problems.

The FS2 open launcher detects the joystick, as does windows control panel. Enable force feedback and enable directional hit are both ticked within the launcher, i have tried all available options such as win32 joystick 1, force 0 etc. I have also tried putting the launcher and other FS2 executables into compatibility mode (win95,98,2000 etc) but still no luck.

The power supply is plugged in and the joystick is receiving power as the stick goes 'lose' when its not. Also it uses the game port on my sound card, not a usb connection. I don't think that should make a difference but i thought i should mention anything i could think of!

Can anyone think of anything i am missing?

Thanks in advance!

:welcome:

Welcome to the HLP Station. Exits are located to the right, left, up, down, and 4th-dimensionally. However all of them are blocked, except the 4-d one, and no one's yet figured how to reach it. In the event of a landing of any kind, you can and will be used as a flotation device. Do not feed the resident Shivan Carl as he will become voracious and chew your leg off. You can find him in the ventilation duct. Throw him your lunch and he'll leave you alone (usually). Flamethrowers can be found under your seat but due to financial constraints have been re-filled with holy water. Plasma rifles can be found in storage lockers. To prevent act of n00b, however, these can only be opened by Moderators, Volition, GOD or a hyperintelligent shade of BluE. Please remember that any attempt to use the ASCII characters 0046h, 0053h, and 0033h in sequential order will result in you being trampled by FreeSpace fan boys. If you go in the Vasudan section of the station and find a box labelled “Headz”, please don’t open it. Thank you and enjoy your stay!

43rd!

Uhm...I can't help you. :P

Same problem here. AFAIK Freespace has force feedback for weapons firing, collision, and player death, I just can't get it to work. Noone cares about Force Feedback anymore, anyway, it sounded cool when it came out but doesn't add a whole lot to the games I've used it with.

It's been a long time since I last used my FF Pro, but I seem to recall that some games had a problem with both auto-centering and force-feedback being enabled at the same time.  It might be worth turning off auto-centering to see if that solves your feedback problem.
