A spin-off based on Crusade and other Ideas
basic premise (probably should be in a seperate Thread
A downed Shivan poisens Earth's atmosphere -or whatever-> One of the best ships in the fleet is despatched to find a cure, and eventually ends up on the run from literally everyone (GTVA, Intelligence, Ea (if it still exists at that time), Shivans, Independant blocs, and others. Eventually they get cut off from and lost in unkown terratory after a blind jump through an unknown node.
The idea of an Inferno spin-off occuring afterward or between or during the chapters has potential. I kind of have the story planned out. Will post more if there is intrest. Note people with ideas for their own spin-offs can post here

So it's pretty much Into the Depths of Hell (http://www.geocities.com/noiseball2000/itdoh.html) with Inferno ships?
I think this makes the fourth Inferno spin-off to come about: mine (Dreamcatcher), Spartan's (which I think he's forgotten about), and Steadfast (Steadfast does count as an Inferno spin-off, yes?).
-
Is it? I never played that campaign. I was thinking more like Crusade that B5 spin-off (that got raped by TNT) along JMS's original vision with elements that didnt make it to screen and some elements from Star trek: Shattered universe. Add in some twists and revelations that I will keep to myself for now other than to say they answer soome of FS2's unaswered questions.
Layout: Pilot: 5-6 mission campaign that sets the scene
Chapter 1: Campaign sthat starts the acual journey
Chapter 2: Discovering difficulties. Your clash with and end up on the run from a rouge division
Chapter 3: Complications. By now you are outlaws hunted in every known system. You have to get through several different power blocs, gaining one or two allys
Chapter 4: Revelations. Lost in unknown space you make some startling revelations that that go back to the previous wars and earliar.
Chapter 5: Counter attack (possibly Climax). Speaks for its self
Chapter 6: Wind down and aftermath.
Don't know when I'll actually make this all...
Come on people lets hear your Spin-off ideas
-
Well, the story of Chapter 4 is somewhat similar to ITDOH (as it is often abbreviated).
Also ITDOH is perhaps three times as long as yours. :p
(Double the chapters, but each of ITDOH's chapters are beginning to be over twenty missions apiece. So Likely much longer than yours.)
Hmm... my campaign has been in development for a while now... you can read all about it here (http://campaignlist.hard-light.net/campaign-101-dreamcatcher_creation.htm) and here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,43296.0.html).

I probably have my own (rather simple but cheesy) spinoff, but I can't do anything until the newA/A2/SCP mod packs are released. Not to mention nothing's planned out - it's just another melodramatic daydream from your fellow café dude.
Bleargh...

I had an idea. The rogue GTI trapped in Sol have a plan to take over the known universe. They have planted their people in high positions within the EA, and after the GTVA come through the node and defeat the Shivans, etc, the GTI capture the Icanus (albeit slightly modified with some Shivan tech) and use it to conquer all known GTVA space. The GTVEA must take down the Icanus somehow.
-
Steadfast does count as an Inferno spin-off, yes?
Not properly. The background story is much different. Probably the only things taken from Inferno are the EA and the ship models.

Thats just a basic out-line. You convoy, by that time Consists of just your baseship and five or six other ships. In addition to Shivans, I'm thinking of importing the Drahk and Shadow vessels from TBP as some other races you cross. There will also be surprising revelations about the NTF rebellion and Boshe.
At present I have no idea how long each chapter will be, but i do know the plot overview

The Icanus will never be destroyed by Terran or Vasudan forces, keep that in mind.

Uh? That's an Inferno campaign. There's just one main difference: the EA is not an enemy...not at the beginning.

That's basically what brought the whole story down. I couldn't think up of a good way to end it. Oh, and I couldn't be bothered to fred up the whole thing. :P
-
They could destroy it. After a long series of battles they could eventually wear it down. What follows is a basic outline
1st stage few missions taking down it's fighter and bomber surport and destroying it's fighterbay so it can't resurpply
2nd stage: take out it's main cannon.
3rd stage: Several missions to wear down it's defences and anti-capship capabilities
4th stage: Once sufficient damage has been done, A full scale all-out attack to take it down.
Or
Include in your campaign the GTDn Archangel. It's a big ship that looks like it could have been cut from R1 of INFERNO. It's SuperBlue Beam cannon would take the Icannus out. The only problem is that after I put the two together and save, FRED crashes everytime I try load the mission. Does any one know the solution?
-
That's pointless. Destroying the Icanus is not an option. That's not a corvette or destroyer, that's a Super Juggernaut!
In case an opposing force succeeds in eliminating most defenses of the Icanus, it will capture, not destroy, the GTSJ.
-
Well the original plan was that the GTI were super-smart and they wouldn't let anyone do them in. They were just too cool to kill. :D
What I had originally in the campaign was that the GTI's main ship was a Redeemer class ship. The Nemesis was of the same class, but was much more powerful. The GTI's Redeemer was slightly weaker (a few less hitpoints and weaker weaponry). After the end of the Shivan war and the destruction of the Gigas, the GTI schemed to acquire the Icanus. Since they have high-ranking officers in all EA positions, they were able to get the Icanus into a vulnerable position. They said that they needed to repair the ship after the engagement with the Gigas. So they had most of the crew vacated. Then, with the Icanus mostly empty, they sent in super marines and killed all the others on the Icanus. Then they got the Icanus operative.
-
Yeah right, you sent your best ship with skeleton crew and no real escort, what a stupid excuse :doubt:
-
There WAS an escort. A GTI escort. And there were a lot of marines on there... GTI marines. :P
Remember, no one knew who was who. For all the GTVEA knew, the GTI were just EA guys.
-
I think the EA will always think about the Icanus. There could be thousands of expert soldiers there.
-
The GTI infiltrated the highest positions in the EA. They could do anything they want without anybody noticing.
-
There are 250,000 people aboard the Icanus and even more should be supposed to think about maintaining and protecting the ship. It will have a fleet...
-
Its is possible for the GTVA to destroy the Icanus and the Gigas. It would just take a long time and be very very costly.
My other way of taking down the Icanus.
First fighter escort is destroyed or/and the fighterbay is destroyed to prevent resupplying/luanch of more fighters. Probably with a Suicide Run While this is going on, a stelh group docks at docking points and tansmits a top secret homing signal. So the icanus can be tracked.
2nd: Bombing Run to take out the main Gun and generally cause the ship havok
3rd: Disable the Icanus by have ships piloted by remote, either ramming the Engines of Exiting subspace in the middle of the engine
4th: once disabled, and enough anti-cap-weaponary has been destroyed, GTVA capships arrive and pour fire into the icanus' hull until it's a smuldering wreck. On the other hand they can now jump in behind it a blow the crap out of it
Note: this may or may not work for the gigas, but it definately works for the Icanus, at least on R1
-
There are 250,000 people aboard the Icanus and even more should be supposed to think about maintaining and protecting the ship. It will have a fleet...
Ugh... I've been saying that you don't know who is friend or foe. There could be a million ships protecting the Icanus, but all of them could be GTI ships...
-
Then the whole EA is GTI?
-
It's like x-files. You don't know who couldbe part of the conspiracy. TRUST NO ONE
-
I know that, but the EA fleets defending the Icanus(or at least, the minimum number of ships that should always be near it)must be considerable. There could be hundreds of fighters, and the EA knows how to prevent some spies from gaining control of their best ship.
-
Yes, but the GTI has infiltrated the EA to it's highest level...Bribes, Blackmail, corruption, liquidation etc.
-
It may be true, but there are thousands of people out there.... I don't know why a branch of the GTI should wait decades before hijacking the Icanus.
-
If you want the biggest prize you must play the longest game...the one that has the highest stakes. Over the cousse of years, GTI would place their loyalists in key place throughout the EA. Given the ultimate size of the EA, it's number of devisions and the size GTI branch at the beginning.
It's like asking the UK to infiltrate an entire colonised star system. It could be done, but would take a long time. to get sufficient number of loyalists into position, so when to coup is pulled off, it only takes about a day or two.
The EA was also a totalitarian regime. The Icanus was the EA's untimate weapon - almost a planet killer. The symbol of their power, like the Death Star to the Galactic Empire in Star Wars. If the GTI waited till the EA was a it's height of power and then launched their coup, given the level of infiltration, the EA would fall to GTI quickly and GTI would look like they were coming in on the provebial "white horse" many of those agaist the EA would probably support the GTI
-
Taskforce Panda, anyone remember that campaign. SImilar to the original premise.
-
You may be right, terran emperor, the GTI could seize control of the Icanus...but its destruction by Terran and/or Vasudan forces must be excluded.
-
Hey hey, it's my idea. Terran_Emperor just likes it. :P
Some of the GTVA could also be infiltrated. During the Third Shivan War, some of the GTI would be able to plant their agents within the GTVA corps through officer exchanges (remember, the GTI is indistinguishable from the actual EA here). This way, some GTVA positions would be taken over by the GTI and could help the main GTI (the rogue EA basically) take over the Icanus.
The Icanus could be destroyed by a weapon created by the Ancients (Pyrgos model anyone?) which was activated by the GTVA. The weapon would also blow up GTVA ships too (and maybe the player).
-
That's not Inferno. It could work fine in a separate campaign, but not in Inferno.
-
'Spin-Off' is the key word here! :P
-
I know, but you were almost giving for sure that it was something "Inferno canon-like". :)
