Hello everyone, i got FreeSpace: The great war when it first came out on PC and i wanted number two but it never came to Australia. (Well i never saw it :()
I also saw you had download links but everyone has seemed to taken them down, is it because legal reasons? Ever thought about hosting on a premium account on RapidShare? The links never get deleted on a premium account as long as they dont get reported. Otherwise its a 30 day expiration.
Also, i saw this huge SCP thing you guys are working on and i was wondering if there is such a mod for the original FreeSpace? I wouldn't mind the new graphics it brings and would make the game feel really good.

heh i remember that i never played FS 2 antill i found HLP
wel 1st thing u can download FS2 SCP from herehttp://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html)
and 2nd try the FS1 port to the FS2 platfrom( u get it with the installer IIRC)
EDIT :nvm i see u got the welcome beam allready
-
Does that have all the cut scenes in that link? The full game? And also about the FS1 port, is it exactly the same (same voices, missions, ships) but with improved graphics?
Thanks.
-
No, that link just makes the graphics on retail Fs2 look better. Fs1 port is exactly the same as the orginal Fs1.
The link leads to a download which gives a application to the source code engine. Which then enhances your Freespace Experience
-
Oh okay, i was hoping FS1 would be improved too :(
Well now i need to go about getting FS2 some how after pretty much all the links are not working.
-
not really i downloaded it in march if i remember and i didnt even have the FS2 retail
-
See my siggy. Turey's Installer FTW!! (If you want a DVD, get hip63's - just rename theportv3 directory to fsport after install & you're set - Turey's Installer will even update hip63's install for you (if you renamed theportv3 to fsport).

So many misconceptions in this thread...
/me sighs.
Does that have all the cut scenes in that link?
Yes.
The full game?
Yes.
And also about the FS1 port, is it exactly the same (same voices, missions, ships) but with improved graphics?
Most of it is the same, but they've fixed a lot of the bugs present in the retail game, and the graphics are better.

It does have retail.

How the hell did you manage to get it into 19mb? That game is like 3 ISO's!

By using an extremely impressive and innovative compression technique known as "Downloading at Runtime." :D
-
Ahh, so it downloads all the files. I just opened it up and i must say, that is some damn good programming on your part there buddy!
-
FS1 just isn't the same without the low-res graphics......
-
FS1 just isn't the same without the low-res graphics......
And the nebula...
-
Ah, you can run it at 640x480 if you want, and you can also make your own FS1 nebulae to stick in there (actually, I think you can prolly just copy it from the FS1 CDs). If you want. :p
-
What? The nebs? The old nebs in FS1? I tried a while ago, and it didn't work.
-
You renamed them to their FS2 equivalents?
-
Whatwhatwhat?
The FS1 neb's aren't bitmaps, they're just palettes.
-
Oh. Hm.
-
FS1 just isn't the same without the low-res graphics......
Yes; it's much better. :p
-
I told you you could manually spec 640x480... if you want.
-
FS2 did come to Australia - it was just damned hard to find. Saw it in Myer once, when it came out. Of course, my brother got my copy off the net, and I got it under the friends and acquaintances clause in the EULA, sooo...

Woohoooo!! Chalk up another aussie FS2 pilot!!
I managed to buy FS2, and played it religously until my right wrist was that of an 80 year old's, then my CD broke. :shaking:
Well you can get FS2 (3) in all its glory now. I think if anyone has the right of saying they've made Freespace 3, the boys at behind making FS2 SCP do. ;)
-
except they don't want it, for various reasons pointed out in Kara's faq. *ducks behind overturned table*
Say, maybe we should make a beam for people that mention eff ess three? ;)

Get it right. I'ts more like FS2 SE Deluxe
-
Yeah! FS2 SCP is more like FS2.5
Maybe. But why do you think the version numbering started at 3? ;)
But yes, if it ain't :v: it ain't FS3

But yes, if it ain't :v: it ain't FS3
but :v: is dead now. So say for instance, another company like Activision or THQ took over rights to produce Freespace, and they made FS3. Would it be 'FS3' then?
-
That would depend on the crew they assembled to create it... and the quality of the product they released. I guess.
-

:v: isn't dead, the team (or at least a majority) are all at THQ (IIRC) and are still making games under the Volition banner, they'd just need to get/buy the IP rights from Interplay to make er..........the next game in the series ( :nervous: ) , but Interplay won't sell it. (I assume, otherwise DS would have bought the rights and made an abomination).
-
One wonders why they have a "cold, dead hands" approach towards it -- seing as that's pretty much what they are.
