Mmkay... :) well first of all, welcome to the forums.

Secondly, this thread's topic's five words are more informative than the error report (which that monstrosity apparently is supposed to be) you posted. Is that a Microsoft error report or what? :eek2: We'll definitely need a bit more specified information to solve the problem...  ;7

1. Are you running Silent Threat on retail Freespace 1 as a campaign, or are you using FS2_Open engine with FSPort mod (including Silent Threat campaign) selected?

Some of the version numbers included in that wall of letters up there seem to suggest you're using retail FS1, in which case it would be no wonder that Silent Threat crashes because it was rather buggy as far as I know.

2. What kind of system are you using? Operating system is rather obviously Windows XP, but other specs can't be harmful to tell either. Of specific interest are the graphics card, the amount of installed system memory and the CPU, in right about that order of importance.

3. In what kind of situation does Silent Threat crash? As soon as you select the campaign? As soon as you get into first mission? Randomly? :ick: In certain mission, when something happens?

Posting this information should be a good start when the Powers that Be notice your topic and start digging to it... :D

Yes thats a Microsoft error report.

and it seems to crash in the single player campaign right after you encounter those fighters in the first lvl and about a minute into a multiplayer game.  I am running FS1: The Great War with the Silent Threat and it doesnt crash on the menu screens though, only in the game when your flying.

thanks for replying so quickly

Okay...

I don't really have much knowledge about troubleshooting retail Conflict/Descent FreeSpace: The Great War, or retail Silent Threat. But I have heard that the original Silent Threat was quite buggy... have you installed all the available official patches for FS1 from Volition? Are you running the game on compatibility mode (Win 95/98) or without?

Have you considered downloading FreeSpace 2 (and if your hardware can take it, FreeSpace Open additions as well) and trying the FreeSpace Port, which basically makes it possible to play FreeSpace 1 and Silent Threat campaigns in FS2 or FS2_Open engine? The Silent Threat campaign may or may not work better on FSPort, I'm not quite sure, but if you can, try it.

That's why I asked about your system specs... If it can handle FreeSpace 2 Open, you're in for quite a ride.

But for now, make sure you have all the official patches installed on your FS1, then find out if you can possibly use Freespace 2 Open. Check what your PC has eaten, specifically

-Graphichs processing unit
-Central processing unit
-amount of random access memory (RAM)

Your system will handle it fine (As a side note, you've got a nice taste in games...) get it here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html).

Well, the patches are found on Volition (http://www.volition-inc.com/fs/downloads.cfm) pages, but I'd recommend using Turey's online installer to grab FreeSpace 2 with FS2_Open additions, as your PC clearly will be able to run it pretty good. :)

xgmx, i have a very similar system, only a little newer vid card and tho i am a novce, know that my system will run either retail or Open quite well. And the patches will help if  you do stick with retail, tho Open is a LOT better and has awesome visual improvments and many others as well. I had to patch to get my retail FS1 to run well also. Good Luck!  You are getting responses from the experts here.   :)  Everyone is very nice here, and I hope you enjoy FS.

You realize, don't you, that we're as confused as you are about what these error reports mean? It basically lists the version of all the relevenant files and programs, which doesn't help very much.

It appears that you're still having an FS1 error. Until someone smarter comes along, all I can recommend is that you run the game in Win98 compatibility mode and disable any advanced features on your graphics card.

I thought you'd gotten a handle on the problem when you asked for the 1.06 update.

Even if you have that Silent Threat patches the game back to 1.04. If you installed Silent Threat after the patch you need to patch it back to 1.06 again.
