Title: FRED'ing with just a pinch of Evil.
Post by: BlueFlames on May 26, 2007, 06:14:28 pm
I don't know about you, but once in a great while, I feel like I've got to stick it to the player....  That bastard gets to sit back, in his comfortable chair, play the mission, and not think twice about it.  On the other hand, I'm stuck in front of my monitor each spare moment I have, for days on end getting the mission *just right*.  Just occasionally, I've got to make sure said player gets his comeuppance, like this little *ahem* "sensor malfunction"....

I'm not a nice person, but something tells me that somebody can one-up this little indescretion pretty easily.

Real evil is an actual Fenris with turrets altered and special hitpoints used. Even a cursory look at the mission file will tell them nothing.

Not very believable though it is?

I can see someone painting a Leviathan up to look like a Fenris though. :)

If you aren't using the media VPs the Fenris and the Leviathan look identical. The Fenris is easy prey for a fighter but if you swan up to a Leviathan in the same way you'll be eating Anti fighter beams very quickly. The only difference between the two is that the HUD tells you the class of the ship.

BlueFlames' little change makes it pick the wrong one and tell you that the Leviathan you have targeted is actually a Fenris.

Or,

-good-secondary-time
--Hostile

Avoid the beam and you won't get hit, pilot.

No, evil...  :drevil: not blatant, uncreative and hackneyed.

What's wrong with Hackney?  One of the more colourful towns in London i'll have you know. :D

I'm the master of evil fredding. The title speaks for itself. :D (although it was actually an unintentional bug that got me it)

Evil: Changed Alt name for false sense of security.
Very Evil: Changing one of the old Fenris turrets to anti-fighter beams.
Downright Evil: Changing above mentioned ship's flag from "capital" to "fighter," then adding a few missile slots, and adding more hitpoints to the weapons subsystem.
Sooooo evil: Giving it (or even the Aeolus) long-range flak
OMG Evil: Having the player's sensor subsystem somehow malfunction and die while fighting any above mentioned ships.
FTW Evil: Having the player's sensor subsystem somehow malfunction and die while fighting a pack of SF Dragons.

This reminds me of when I got my sensors subsystem destroyed in a multiplayer dogfight.
And many of the other players were either from the 303 or the SOR :blah:

People complain a lot about EMP and loosing weapons subsystem, but it doesn't bother me. I always either use Tempests or Trebuchets, nothing in between.

OT :P

I'm even more evil. The character of SthCrs has superpowers and can cause explosions of various dimensions, summon warships and change the class of its spacecraft to stuff like the Kato or the Mara. THIS is EvilTM

--- well the levi has blue glowmaps and the feni red one ---
(if you are using HT&L)

And the INFA Leviathan has even a different shape :P

In mission 14c in PI, the player goes through about 20 minutes of stuff and presumably gets all immersed in the story, but may die just before the end (that is, if he/she sucks :p). I had intended to make the player invulnerable at that point but somehow forgot about it in the initial release of the campaign. It was fixed a while ago though.

I may have already been dealt my punishment for this, while testing the mission earlier today.

The directives are censored, but as you can probably tell by all of the red in that window, things went to pot pretty quickly after my sensors were blown out by one of those many, many AAA beams.  Owie.

Uhm...why you're not using FS Open? Does it have something to do with your pic and what you're trying to show us? I'm confused.

Nobody has to use FSOpen.

My preference is retail FS2.  I seem to recall another recent thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,47359.0.html) about that topic, though.

I thought the mission with the EMP missiles was evil enough. The AI shouldn't be allowed to have those damn things. :P

It's worse when your wingmen have them, since they don't consider how near you are to their target before firing, and you really shouldn't retaliate.

...erm...

Not that I would ever do such a thing, of course.

Actually, this was done... in the FS-Port no less.  In V2.3, during the mission when you're supposed to capture the HOL cruiser Ramses ("The Hammer and the Anvil", I think), the Taranis had been changed to a Lilith, then had a change-alt-name to Cain class.  I think its actually a Cain in the current v3.0.x releases.

From a tactical standpoint, it would make more sense if the ships look functionally identical as an element of surprise (and making what was done in this thread even eviler). I don't want the training wheels of being able to visually identify the meaner of the two. *goes into MediaVPs and begins copying and renaming Fenris textures to Leviathan ones*
