A small campaign, only three missions. In mission dialog is fully voice acted, briefings / debriefings are WIP. I have added LS backgrounds and nameplates. Should just need some playtesting and be good to go.

Ok :)
I have to play through the campaign another time, I don't remember it
-
Affirmative, we will download your target!
;) ;) ;)
-
Anyways, Nelson, I'm skilled enough to add LS nebulae. Don't do everything by yourself the next time :P
-
It was already done, just clearing out stuff on my hard drive. :)
-
Please inform me the next time.
I'm working on INFA right now but I think I can find time for Boomerang tonight :)
-
I have fond memories of this campaign. It's also one of the first ones that ever made me open a mission in FRED to see how something was done. :)
-
As I said with Warzone.... tomorrow! =) I feel like Annie.
-
I'll play the campaign ASAP, trust me :)
-
I saw the amount of work you put in Warzone and I feel this campaign could need some polishing too:
I'll just write down my thinking while playing through it (for the first time). As I was lazy I played through it on "Very Easy", but I thought that would need some playtesting too for balancing.
- First of all:
Where am I? Where in time and space, what is the context? A bit background information would be really nice.
- First mission:
Okay a normal defend those transports mission.
Nice was the addition of the SC Sciva, but unnice was:
I put out both beam cannons via trebuchets as soon as it arrived. It still made much damage to the GTC. (hull from 100% down to 18%) And afterwards the GTC was killed by the Flak and lasers of the SC, before we could come even close to putting it down 50%.
That felt "unfair". I dunno if that was because I was playing on "Very Easy", but I really dunno how I can save the GTC.
Else I have found no apparent errors and that debriefing though its quite short is quite okay.
It also felt "strange" to have the bonus objective secured, but not the secondary one.
On another more general note regarding convoy protection:
It again feels strange that no bomber wings have stillettos on board. One hit and you have a ship with engines disabled, which then is an easy target, because either the whole convoy needs to stop and have one ship repair the broken one or its left behind its escort. It might be very unfair to have bombers with stillettos from a playpoint point-of-view, but it was something I ever wondered about.
- 2nd mission:
I lost the GTVI Installation to the bombers and the beam cannons of the SC Sciva, I dunno if you can save it, but the briefing was a failure, but I could still "Accept". That felt strange too.
When that mining vessels arrived and I defended them, I suddenly got a "objective accomplished", but they were still in transit. That also felt strange. Could they jump out perhaps? Or have some other ship arrive that defends them and only them ...
But that also feels strange as there is a much more huge fight taking place and I can't see why command so much worries about some vessels when there is risk to have an installation destroyed.
- Last mission:
Now that one was weird. We destroyed all enemy craft in no time and there was no resistance whatsover. Then all goals unless the one to protect the GTD Blair were true, even though there was still one watchdog left.
And I was like, WTF. Should I leave now?
Then a shivan armada jumped in 10 clicks away, and then after some time the GTD Blair jumped in heavily damaged. It didn't make too much sense to me. Especially with the goal always present to protect a ship, that is not present at all ...
The timing just seemed wrong ... (though I haven't looked into the mission file, yet).
I was told not to engage the cruisers, but then they came nearer and nearer and they screamed that the cruiser come nearer, but no order to engage them.
I finally thought: Well, I could use the time and use those trebuchets to put out the beam cannons ...
But then the "friends" together with all vulnerable freighters arrived and were put into pieces by the beam cannons ... Especially the lower hull transports.
That did not make any sense at all to me ... I mean its okay that they arrive to help and that they could not just leave the transports behind, but anyway a huge risk of all goals of the first mission.
Perhaps have them arrive after all beam cannons are destroyed.
In the debriefing was nothing about the destroyed "friends". If I had gotten this order earlier to put out the beam cannons they might have lived.
Another thing: There are enough bomber wings to take out those three cruisers, but when Gemini jumps in, they especially destroy the fighters.
It makes no sense at all to have the bomber wings sitting there like sitting ducks and have them not even protected by the other fighter wings or let them attack if you want to suicide them.
Either return them to the destroyer or assign the fighter wings to protect the bomber wings instead of assigning all to defend the GTD Blair.
Also all debriefings are very short and miss some "feeling" ...
Overall the campaign is a nice short enjoyable campaign, but if you want to do some restoration, I think it could also get some serious restoration :).

Fabian
IIRC the Corvettes in Boomerang have a reactor system for a reason :D .

I'm sorry I haven't gotten to this... my schedule at work is crazy, and what little time I have had has been spent on Warzone or my other project.
I'm off for 4 days as of Thursday... I'll try to give it a go one of them and do a detailed bug report.
-
Darkblade has completed the voice acting, so I will post that up shortly.
-
So, have you got the additional voice acting? I might as well test everything if we've got it. Then I can delve into FRED for bugfixing.
-
Here (http://files.filefront.com//;8006556;;/) are Mauri's lines.
Thanks.
-
Too slow! I'm visiting the GFs parents. Will be back with a few days off next week. It's really too bad I can install FSO at work :P
-
The only problem with having the briefings voice-acted already is that I can see a few instances of awkward and/or bad grammar that could use correcting.
IF I correct them, is it possible to rec-record the voice acting?
I'm also going to listen to the files here, because it may not be as noticeable when heard versus read.
-
I lost the GTVI Installation to the bombers and the beam cannons of the SC Sciva, I dunno if you can save it, but the briefing was a failure, but I could still "Accept". That felt strange too.
That's how I felt when, in the main FS2 campaign, I killed the civilian transport in the SoC loop, got the courtmartial debriefing, I violated BETAC, I'm a disgrace, yadda yadda I'd be prosecuted, blah blah blah, and could accept and go to the next mission.
-
Ya, you're not supposed to kill the transport... y'know what I do? I could sense what was coming, so I thought "screw it" and began pegging my wingmen... after I'd destroyed a couple or three of them, they finally changed to hostiles.. but I'd gotten the jump on them. :drevil: muhahahahha! take that, you racist NTF scum-buckets!

Alright guys, this is a dev thread, enough screwing around please.
-
sorry, i didn't intend to start that
-
Ehm...I think I'm done with TR(until now). What should I do for Boomerang, exactly? ;)
-
feedback, feedback feedback. :)
-
OK; as I just posted in the Warzone thread my game time is limited so for the moment, the only FSCRP project I'll be able to work on is Warzone. When that changes, I'll post some work in here.

Admiral,
Testing Boomerang
Operating system:
AMD Athlon64 4200 2.20GHz dual processor, 2GB ram, Vista 32-bit Home edition
Procedure:
1) I installed everything from scratch with Turey's installer with mediavps version 3.6.10
2) Opened a new folder - Boomerang
3) I copied a mod.ini file from the JAD campaign available with the installer and edited for Boomerang
Issues
1) The ships are not updated with the latest designs shown in the thread of the 3.6.10 release. They are like the retail freespace, ie worse than 3.6.9. If such designs are 'Mod dependent', can include them in the installation of Boomerang? [if you need an ingame screenshot or of the ship selection page, please show me how (I will then create a testing faq on www.squidoo.com/freespace2)
2) If the new version needs a mod.ini file, this should be part of the installation and not need further action by who downloads the file. If I am not mistaken, the new 'trend' is to use folders...
3) I have voice acting during the game but not in the mission briefings. Did I do something wrong? I just unzipped all the Boomerang zip file contents in a Boomerang folder
Story line
I will update this in the next days since I am pressed with time and only played the first level on 'Medium' difficulty
Further to Fabian's ideas;
1) Introduction
a. I love it when in the campaign briefings, they specify a specific year. That way I try to play the campaigns in chronological order... it really helps you get that necessary historical background of what is going on in the Freespace universe...
b. Who am I? A new recruit, a mercenary, a vasudan helping out humans, a seasoned pilot given some routine patrol for some rest, a demotivated pilot? etc
c. Where am I stationed?
2) First mission
a. Debriefing is short but it would be ok if there is a decent introduction.
b. I found the objectives reasonable. If a secondary objective cannot be reached, it is also part of the storyline. Actually, you could have a campaign where you constantly fail your primary objective and the story moves on... you will be completely lost... ie similar to Sync...
3) Convoy protection concept... I will create a separate thread in Gaming discussion...
-
Final review of Boomerang.
BTW. I managed to sort out the issue of the mod.ini file and the graphics. Oops, I did not realise that Turey's 3.6.10 was the build and not the MVPs... LOL Anyway...
- 2nd mission:
1) I managed to save GTVI Installation to the bombers and the beam cannons of the SC Sciva, with Medium difficulty. Secret is using trebuchet missiles...
2) I agree with Fabian, with regards to the mining vessels getting "objective accomplished" when they were still in transit.
3) The mission should be a failure if the installation gets destroyed.
- Last mission:
Too easy. I literrally barely moved and took out everything through trebuchets... timing was ok because I destroyed the sentry guns...
I will here past in Fabian's comments cause I totally agree...

Admiral,
1) Any updates on the campaign?
2) I am considering including my input as a voice actor. I am a complete newbie. Thought I would start with a short campaign like Boomerang. Do you have the text lines in a word doc for me to practice?
-
I did over Pandora's Box, now perhaps to finish this. There is no further voice acting needed for Boomerang. You should PM Tinman and get some smallish lines for Warzone.
-
Which year does this campaign take place, please ? I am trying to put the campaigns in chronological order for the Wiki.
