I know ive been on and on and on and on and on and... bla about errors
But i can't find a retail version of freespace that does NOT have a broken link or is not 1 huge file
HOTU= Bad link, won't work
Turey's installer= Bad thing. Freespace2/Fred2 cannot find directory route. I don't blame this on turey, i would guess it works fine. I just have the computer skills of a monkey, and can't figure out how to work it
I have NO, repeat, NO freespace 2 things with me, i had the disks, but there lost in the mess that is the computer room. no files, nothing. just a boring demo.
Goggle shows afew links, most broken. Trying Hades gives me 1 huge file with no installer, so after i burn to a disk, then what? is the installer in the huge file?
Can somebody PLEASE just put up a link to a WORKING link to download a retail version of freespace 2? i don't need the other Open stuff or extra campiagns, just a working retail version. so that i can go try to kill something other then my need to kill something!
Sorry if i sounded rude.

Why do you persist in ignoring my posts? This is the third time I've posted this. And also like I said earlier, you need to run FS2 from a directory that has no spaces in the name.

Not true unless you use an old version of the Launcher. 5.5 has this issue fixx0red.
EDIT:

I stated this bug was fixed in v 5.5 of the Launcher. That is correct, right? If so, can you confirm this? Thx :)
Correct, it was fixed in the 5.5 Launcher. But it is not, and has never been, a bug in FS2/FSO. It was just some stupid requirement of the Launcher, which basically was there to correct a bug that should have just been fixed in the first place. By the time that I got to it, the problem code had already been removed/replaced, but the space check was left in foar no reason. :doubt:
Some installers could have trouble with spaces in the folder names, but that too would just be an installer bug and have nothing to do with FS2/FSO itself.
The only requirement that FS2/FSO has regarding directory names is that:
1) The path must contain valid characters for the filesystem/OS
2) The total path must be less than 255 characters ('total' being all the way down to "data/somefolder/somefile.xxx")
3) paths and filenames must not contain multi-byte characters (like Chinese or Japanese for instance)

OK you win. But I still don't know why he was ignoring my link so much. I don't even know why he missed the thread in the first place. It's stickied and right there!

*shrugs* I'm keen (well, ok, so maybe I'm not) but clueless.

How about in 100 mb chunks:
http://hosted.filefront.com/hip63/1915136
and the patch for the above files
http://hosted.filefront.com/hip63/1935621
see if that will work for you
hip63 :p

I hope you still have Turey's version installed. The reasons why you're getting that error are actually very simple and are probably just due to a bad shortcut.
