Title: help finding some files
Post by: commander DS on June 12, 2007, 07:41:05 pm
i was wondering if any one would know where i can find my   VP files for the ships so i can open them up and where i might find all my tbl files like for the weapons Ive looked in the    freespace 2/data/tables folder and i only have the ships tbl     I'm running the inferno mod which id like to get rid off.  but it seems to of rearranged everything and i cant find the files that make it up. Ive also got freespace open which dosn't work right with that mod, I'm willing to install the game if i can keep the main bulk of the open data. and then reinstall to get rid of this mod its seems to be a lot of trouble.

so right now I'm thinking copy all the 'fs2open' files some where Else uninstal freespace 2 reinstall and then just copy files back

does this sound like a good plan, or is it going to try tell me open isn't installed right

sorry my English is rubbish but to me that makes perfect sense. i installed the inferno mod a long time ago straight into the freespace2 directory i can only assume its move some files and changed some  since there not where i believe they are suppose to be  in another section of this furom i went through making my freespace 2 open work any way but now i believe i should just uninstall it all and start again. as i can not find all the inferno files. however I'm not prepared to lose my  freespace 2 open files as they take a while to download, will i end up with some bug errors if i just copy them out and put them back in after a reinstall

or different idea altoget would any one know my my tbls would be other than the tables folder and where are the VP files for ships

i hope thats easyer or better for you all

Okay, vp files just don't matter, you can dump them in any install you want. what you should try to do is move all the inferno only VPs into a new "Inferno" folder, right in the freespace 2 dir. if you can't find them all just reinstall inferno into said folder. and delete the original inferno files.
what kind of problems do you get when playing inferno?

All of the original VP files should be in the main folder. Extra table files should either be A) in the VP's, or B) in freespace2/data/tables.

It sounds as though you had Inferno installed for retail, then tried to upgrade to FSO. That, in a word, is bad. You have to put all Inferno files into their own folder within the main folder.

Removing the Inferno and FSO files and putting them back in after a reinstall shouldn't affect anything, it's perfectly okay to do that.

Run the debug build and post the first part of the fs2_open.log file that appears in your data folder. After you've done that I can tell you exactly what to do to solve your problems.

You can always extract files from fs2_root.vp using VPView for example.

And you can quite easily use fred with mods. First make a shortcut to the fred exe (in the main freespace dir). Right click on the shortcut and select properties. Then add (-spec -glow) -mod_directory

Unfortunately you wont as the online side of FS2 died years back when Volition got bought out by THQ or Interplay or someone :nervous:

But there is a fantastic new system in place which i know nothing about so i'll leave it to Karajorma or someone who has experienced multiplayer joy, post-squadwar

Welcome by the way
