OK, i know this will annoy everyone.
I've been coming up with alot of critisism at the moment from many areas (not just 3D) and i need to do something to make me feel better about myself.
I know my work isnt too popular...err..pretty much everywhere, so what should i be doing to make it better?
, because in this context I feel i'm a bad artist and/or designer.

What? There's people who don't understand the almighty beauty of the Polaris? If I had half your skill and talent, I'd consider myself an artist indeed.

cant think what you been posting recently so let seems to renders and if i can help i will (probally not though noone likes my renders much either)

Since everyone says "thats nice" and forgets about it.
Or thats what it seems. Maybe i'm generating the wrong kind of impact but i really need a direction to improve in because i've hit an impasse.
My course concentrates on storyboarding and character animation which bores me to tears. By the same token none of them like sci-fi stuff so i find my personal tastes and course requirements are at loggerheads at the moment. Its not good for the confidence.

hmmmmmm similar situation you but my cource is even less related its not evena 3d cource its jsut graphic design adn they are trying to get us to do weird stuff now and distancing us from the computers which was why i did this cource so i could improve my photoshop skilsl etc and work upto gettign tino a 3d cource somewhere preferally one that liesk doing sci fi lol since thats what i do too

When you're good, no-one cares because they expect you to do good. When your crap everyone patrnises you with 'That's great' and 'You're really improving'.

Hmm, I think everybody has the same pb one day or another. Right now, my 2D art school... well, d'uh, I'm more bored than a dead rat there, I draw craps, and I hate that. You can't expect people to always like what you do, anyway, if it doesn't fit their tastes. Obviously you'll have more feedback here than you'll have with your course mates.

the biggest problem is that sci-fi people tend to keep it where nobody can see it and then everyone starts thinking theres' no money in it.
Im much happier doing "boring spaceships" to quote a certain course tutor than doing daft cartoon character shorts.

I think your work is good...if I could MOD at all or was any good at rendering, then I would consider myself an artist. No matter what you think, you're good at what you do.
For example, my Graphic Design teacher barely passed me because she said that all of my work was "too similar" because I was concentrating on the U.S. Air Force (following 9/11). Teachers can be like that.

I might not say "ITS CRAP!!!", but yeah, I probably would say its not so hot (just coming to my defense). It's not like I would say something is good just to make somebody feel good. But anyway, wEvil, I think your stuff is good.

wEvil, your ships are awesome. Your sets though I don't think are too hot (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) I'm being honest here though.
Look at the show Enterprise, they layed out everything in the sets to make visual sense as well as practical. (well as practical as you can get with StarTrek)
My suggestion is that sort of simple, real life submarine interior look as opposed to the almost cartoony look with plasma relays zapping arround, etc.
