Title: HDRish Problems
Post by: colecampbell666 on June 13, 2007, 02:46:13 pm
Do smart shaders have to be in a certain folder to work? I have a Radeon Sapphire 9550 and the smart shaders do not work.

Like i told you in the email, find out whether or not your radeon has shader module 2.0, aka sm2.0. Hdrish cannot be used on cards that have a shader module less than 2.0. The radeon 9550 appears to be sm2.0 compliant, so that means you can use the more advanced smartshaders like hdrish.

But, to use the smartshaders, open psscontrol2.exe first. Then click the browse button to search for smartshaders to load. The smartshaders can be located wherever you want, so it doesn't matter on their location, it just matters that you can navigate to them with psscontrol2.exe to load them. Once you've browsed for the desired smartshader click open after done browsing and selecting the smartshader file of your choice. Then after that, the smartshader is loaded, you can even close psscontrol2.exe and the smartshader will still be loaded. That smartshader goes away only if you go back into psscontrol2.exe and click turn off smartshader.

And there you have it. Like psscontrol2.exe says, "there is no guarantee if this will work with future or current graphics drivers", so this may actually be a factor where you'd have to get a past version of drivers, but i doubt that.

Actually, that is most likely his exact problem. This feature was removed after the 6.3 drivers, and those are ancient now.

Techinically even though the feature is removed from the drivers, psscontrol2.exe should compensate for that removal as it is a smartshader loader. But, idk how psscontrol2.exe works on ati cards with newer catalyst drivers as i moved to nvidia.

That program just loads a shader file into the driver settings. It doesn't do anything by itself.

Download the old OpenGL DLLs anc copy them into your FS2 folder (root). Use PS2control and you can use HDRish again.

Interesting, I need to give that a try. I never liked the effect in FS2 since it messes up backgrounds (even the lite version), but it looks great in some other games.

[edit] Awesome, it works. :D I need to try Unreal again with this turned on.

For the love of god, it's "shader model", not "module".

That doesn't really tend to matter right now since it's referred to as sm2.0 in the first place anyway. So i wouldn't end up saying model or module anyway, but it is a written thing.

The shaders still don't work. I think that it's a problem with FreeSpace itself. Any suggestions?

Well, you could get a really old version of catalyst drivers that do support smartshaders. And that sounds like your best bet.

It works on a friends computer and he has updated drivers.

If it works on another comp, but not on yours, then it's a problem with your comp, not FreeSpace.

I'm using ATI Tray Tools. I can set an ATI shader plus a second party shader like HDRish and HDRish-lite which are included. http://www.guru3d.com/article/atitraytools/189/ (http://www.guru3d.com/article/atitraytools/189/)

No errors but I'm not sure if they're working either.

You were right, Turey. My comp crashed this morning. It has been getting slower for weeks.

I'll try this once i fix my desktop. My mom won't let me download FSSCP on her laptop.
