Title: Sound issue
Post by: MT on June 14, 2007, 10:31:59 am
Using Turey's online installer, latest. I am getting "static" like sound with all the sounds ingame. I do not think that the issue is with audio codec, since there are no similar problems with in on another computer with the same audio codecs, though the game crashes mid mission everytime (but that's due to the onboard video. For sound I am using the onboard audio. Is the hardware being the issue (ie insufficient to play properly)?

Second thing, what should I use to unpack the .vp files?

Have you installed OpenAL? Also, on your launcher, in the sound/controller tab have you selected "Generic Software" as that is usually the best, there are sometimes errors with "Generic Hardware" with missing sounds etc.

As for what you need to unpack VP's check out Karajorma's FAQ, especially his Tools (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/tools.html) section. You need VPview to unpack the VP's. However there are a few others around that may have a few more features (VPMage is one that I can recall of the top of my head) Others may know of more.

OpenAL - check
Generic software -check

Still the same. maybe I'll unpack the ogg files this weekend and see if I have problems playing them at the desktop.

I have a Sound Blaster 5.1 around. I stopped using it when I had some problems (strangely similar to this but with other video files) with sound playback. I might try it and see if the problem disappears.

Let me guess - Onboard AC97 audio? If so, it's a known problem with out-of-date drivers, and getting the latest from Realtek will fix it.

There ya go.

Problem solved. Thanks!  :D

Does anyone know if having an Intel Q965/963 onboard graphics (only) means that you can't run the game (without crashing)?

IDK, but try updating the graphics driver from Intel's site anyways. (Here, I think... for the Q965: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2583&lang=eng for the Q963: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2581&lang=eng). If that doesn't work, buy another GFX card.  (Give a price range and ask for advice here, if you want, that's what I'd recommend.)
