Title: Hi, I'm new here
Post by: Colonel_Cool on June 15, 2007, 11:05:46 am
Hi, I'm new to these forums, and it looks like HLP is doing some pretty nice work on the Freespace engine. I remember playing Freespace 1 when I was little, and I would like to play it again. Where can I download the Freespace/F2 campaign? Thanks.

"Colonel Cool"... that is a great name, I like it.

Well, anyway. It sounds as though you do not have FS2? Most people use either HOTU's download  (http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=4150) (which is incomplete, though karajorma has made the rest of the files available for download), or a Torrent (http://www.torrentspy.com/search.asp?query=freespace).

Once you have that, you can go about getting the SCP enhancements (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,44291.0.html). I recommend using Turey's Installer, the link to which can be found on that page, which also contains some user-made campaigns including the FS1 Port.

If this is all a bit confusing, don't worry. We'll help you get it up and running. Answers to many questions can be found at karajorma's FAQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/intro.html).

Enjoy your time here!

Thanks for the info. I noticed a stickied thread here on the General Discussion forum that has the Freespace Open Installer, which includes Freespace 2 and and Freespace Open 3.6.9 and some player-made campaigns. Am I good to go with downloading this?

Yeah. That's Turey's installer and I'd recommend it over any of the other options (except for hip63's DVD which is equally good if you have a lot of bandwidth)

Well, it was a VERY long install (thanks to my crap 256k internet) and I have all the files saved to
C:\\Program Files\Freespace 2. Now I need to download Open AL and reinstall some files that failed to install. For some reason the Open AL download on the Creative Labs developer website won't work. Can anyone give me an alternate link?

Google it?

I would attach it if it wasn't 553KB even after compressing...it's 41 KB more then I'm allowed!!!
