Could always try looking at the links in the right-hand column of the Descent 3 website (http://www.descent3.com/).
-
ebay (http://www.ebay.com) - thats where I got my copy :nod:
-
Yah, eBay...got D3 + Merc expansion pretty darn cheap!! (But check their ratings b4 buying!)

Wow, thanks.

On the subject of Descent 3, I don't suppose there's anything out there that brings it slightly more up to date graphically? It's still good - but I was curious to see if anything like the SCP existed for it?
I've been reading a great Descent novel lately, and sorely want to dive back into the fray ;)
-
There are mods, I have a bunch... but as far as graphics, IDK... would help if they released the source code. ;7 (They released D1 & DII's source code, but AFAIK not D3... :sigh:)
-
can you force AA and AF on it with out any problems?
-
Haven't tried, IDK... I imagine you could... Check out its reg settings, too...

The folks who were largely responsible for that happening were the ones who released the FreeSpace 2 Source Code.

Believe me, there are quite a few of us in the Descent community who would kill to get our hands on the D3 source code. After seeing what the SCP has been able to accomplish, it's rather depressing to realize that the ultimate edition of one of the few series I love as much as FS hasn't had the same opportunity. The DXX-Rebirth and D2X-XL projects are amazing enough in their own right, but D3 has always been my personal favorite, and I'd love to see it with a fresh coat of paint.
At any rate, if anyone out there is jones-ing for some D3 multiplayer action, Vortex (http://www.slyclan.de/) is your best bet. It's a fan-made program that incorporates a TCP/IP server browser (with level/mod auto-downloading) and an interface to the popular Descent IRC channels.

Actually for what it's worth, I just realized there's this...
http://www.chmodoplusr.com/IntoCerberon/
It's still in production, but the screenshots are awesome!

This is like a coincidence lol, I just reinstalled D3/D3M and replaying Pyromania just for the fun of it. Shame I can't use the Grinder or those Hyperlaser-equipped ships in SP. Been rotating D3, X3 and NFSMW these past few weeks.
(I still get hit too easily even at the easy difficulties... better work on trichording more. :sigh:)

Set up your Descent config almost like Halo's --
A = Slide left
D = Slide right
W = Forwards
S = Backwards
E = AB
Q = Slide up
Z = Slide down
Mouse U/D = pitch U/D
Mouse L/R = turn L/R
Mouse Middle click = slide when pressed
Reconfigure any keys used by these... try it out, see if it helps. :pimp:
EDIT: And get all (OK, well, ALOT) of the D3 mods here (http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3728948). :cool:
-
It's also on GameTap if you got it.. Same goes for Freespace 1 and 2.
-
Yes, it is, but the GameTap version is singleplayer-only.
And Kal, from what I've heard, Into Cerberon is a really nice piece of work (I'd have played it myself, but there's no way this box would run Doom 3). A lot of us in the Descent community are eagerly anticipating another project called Core Decision, a fully commercial project with Descent-esque 6DOF gameplay. One of their team members said they're readying a large content preview in the very near future, so I'll post a link here when that comes.
-
Cheers Mongoose, that sounds really good.
I just reinstalled D2 (and D2X-Rebirth) and have been really enjoying the gameplay. The only thing that'd really improve on that is a decent modern day graphical makeover.
-
I think D3 only needs AA AF high-rez textures and highpoly models and it would look almost like a new game.

I eagerly await the thread in which you decry those Swedish pirates and their policies.
-
Eh? They do happen to be the largest bittorrent tracker / torrent host around. Whilst I may not agree with some things their members do, they can prove rather useful for hosting my legal torrents. :p
PS I eagerly await the thread in which you decry the nefarious practices of spammers and their acolytes.
-
I was referring to your banning from some other torrent tracker and your subsequent thread *****ing about it.
-
Give it a rest please.

Well, if it be graphical updates... best bet is D2X-XL (www.descent2.de). Oh, the hi-rez goodness :D.
-
Yeah, it looks a lot better (fully-textured automaps FTW!), but not even a fraction as good as the improvements made to FS by the coders... probably cause only one guy is/was working on it.

Well, I did finally get ahold of someone that answered me.. (after I applied a bit of dripping sarcasm to one of my e-mails, months and months after I initially contacted them, requesting more info..)
They said I was supposed to contact them so they could go over the stuff I uploaded and make sure it wasn't harmful. Something about ppl uploading spyware and all that crap. Ya, the stuff I uploaded could easily have been scanned for that without banzoring me. I think that they just don't want to deal with it. And no, it's not because games aren't allowed... they have hosted on their site (http://www.vuze.com/content/BucketBrowse.htm?sp=SGAME&sp=X&sp=X&sp=1&sp=SAZHOT&sp=SALL&sp=X&sp=X&sp=S&sp=X&sp=X&sp=X) the games that you put the green stuff down for on there, as trials, or subscriptions.. :ick: In other words, the commercial games. Well, anyways... the guy did say to contact them with the details of the source for the games and all that... so I did. Result: nothing. Not that I expected one.
I would have put all this in my other thread, but I was trying to follow Kal's advice before he even gave it and not necro the thread.. oh well. If a mod wants, they can move / copy this post into my Azureus VUZE / Zudeo thread if they want.
Oh, PS before I get too negative here, they did say something about them looking into the source of the games to see if they could be distributed by VUZE in the future... and I did apologize for being sarcastic, and thanked them for getting ahold of me, etc, etc. But since my reply has gone unanswered, IDK what if anything they are doing with it. *shrugs* They didn't unbanz0r me, so I just made another account.. IDK why, I'm not going to upload anything except maybe videos scratch that, they banned my Tremulous promo video too, I forgot... geez, it was just an .avi file. Prolly cause it mentioned the location where you could get Trem from.
Any mod that wants, can take these posts about Azureus (maybe brozozo's too?) and put them in my Azureus thread.. I don't want to spam this thread, but I don't want to leave this unanswered either.
