I know that there have been topics about Freespace 2's music in the past but most of the threads I have seen are over 5 years old.
My question is:
Is there anyway to get a copy of the music used in the briefing of the Freespace 2 mission "Slaying Ravana" (The one that has a biblical theme to it like the music that was in the film "The End of Days")?
-
Yeah--look around the retail VPs--there should be a folder called "Music" in one or more of them. Start listening to the tracks and eventually you'll find it.

Unfortunately I lost my retail copy of the game years ago and have had to rely on the SCP team in order to get my freespace fix.

or Better yet:
Is there anyway to extract the music from the game?

It is actually exactly the same way as for the retail version of the game. The SCP only deals with the executable, the data files (discounting the media VPs) are unchanged.
Anyway, one program that will get the job done is VPview, part of the Descent Manager toolset (http://www.descent-network.com/descman/). Once you're done installing that and have specified the proper path for FS2, simply run VPview, select "Open .VP file" from the file menu, and pick the one that is labeled "Music data" - warble_fs2.vp. That will give you a list of all the music tracks used by FS2, with the briefing track you're looking for in particular named FS2_cinema2.wav. Finally, under the "Action" menu you have the option to extract any tracks you want.

Merged topics.
If you have the SCP version you should still have warble_fs2.vp. If you don't I'd suggest running Turey's installer (link elsewhere in this forum) and letting it update your install so you have it.

Thanks a lot guys, I've now got a copy of that track... Wish I knew what the full version was called (not the Freespace 2 version) because I really like Choral and classical music (most notably Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 "Ode to Joy")

That should at least put you on the right track. :)
