Ok, the plan is with this is, once the side-panel and engines are deslt with, both of which are just screaming 'fix my vertices!', I'm going to texture up what I have here, and then start adding more detail. I'm not doing bad so far, that's around 4000 polies, so, depending on what I decide to make it into, I'll do all the turrets once it's textured.
So, my own thoughts are 'heavy freighter' at the moment, but then, that may just be because I haven't put any guns on it yet, those flat top/base panels could certainly make for a nasty Heavy Cruiser or Corvette if fitted with Really Big Guns, which, after all, is what a Capship is for ;)
So, what do people think?

I think I can't see any images...

Fixed

I see it more as a heavily armed freighter, one that can actually protect itself somewhat. Stick some AAAF on that and a few flak cannons and you're good to go. (Maybe one capship beam?) Looks good though, I can see it being an earlier Terran design that has been upgraded and retrofitted for modern day warfare!

For some reason it reminds me of Rheinland caphips from Freelancer....
-
it looks like some sort of heavy industrial thing, maybe a miner?
-
It's too rugged looking to be a warship. It doesn't look like it doesn't much armor. It just screams civilian to me. Heavy freighter wouldn't be fitting since it doesn't look like it has much storage space. Light freighter or heavy transport. Or if you add some antennas and whatnot, it would go as a science/exploration vessel.
Or maybe tone down the engines, and size up the rest of the ship, you'd have a pretty decent colonization ship...
-
I dunno man - to me, it kind of looks like you've lost the ship under all the greebles. It hasn't really got much of a defined... shape to it, you know? When I first saw it, before I clicked what topic I was reading or anything, I immediately thought "Oh - someone's making a high poly model for one of those animated gun loadout thingoes". On something the scale of a Freespace starship, and looking at that you'd not want to say less than 100m long, I just don't see that kind of assymetric, super-busy greebling as being realistic. But that could just be me, I dunno.
-
Yeah, it really looks like a heavy cargo freighter to me, either the heavy or super-heavy variety.
If it was a heavy, I'd see it ferrying food/supplies/etc with a WTJload of fighter escort. If a super-heavy, it'll be a one-of-a-kind ship carrying a large single ultra-high value object.
And I kinda agree with BW on it... ok maybe I'm not feeling what he's feeling, but still, I can't describe it but I feel like it's lacking... something. Lack of feeling? That X-factor? Spirit or what? No clue. Whatever it is, I am unable to explain it. :doubt:
BTW what program is that? :)
-
On second thoughts....if it was smaller, with engines that large, it could be a tug of some kind! Perhaps?
-
I think what it lacks is variety in the basic geometry, if the center box was widened at the base it would help it eminsely, I think.
maybe forming one of these

Hmmm.. I'll take a look at it, it'll probably piece together a bit better once I start doing the textures, the problem is that some of those greebles are designed for a specific purpose which you can't see until they are textured. The general consensus seem to be an Industrial ship, so I'll start looking at the decoration on this and working them more around that theme.
-
It looks like a bunch of hillbillys made it from scrap parts. *gets a good idea*
-
LOL Well, I wouldn't quite have worded it like that, but nonetheless, yes, I think that's what made me think Industrial at first, it's pretty boxey, which is standard Terran design, I'll probably be working on the side of the model, where those 'pointless panels' are at the moment, possible stick on some extra cargo space instead?
-
well, my Good IdeaT is for a mod-that-i-am-not-going-to-start-until-star-wars-conversion-is-released, can I use it for my mod when I am done? that is of course if it does end up looking like scrap.
