Delta wing span for deployment in athmospheric conditions as well as in space.
Aerodinamic design for wind drag minimazation.
1-2 men capacity. pilot and co-pilot/gunner.
Hyper-Jump capable.
full stealth/cloke capabilities.
Hyper-stellar speed.
Tachion particle generator.
Duex Plasma flow stabilazer.
Chronos device and Temporal navigational instruments.
Basic Replicator.

yup (tho it doesn't look like a futuristic ship compared to FS2 ships, rather like an early space tech fighter to me). Did you make it couger?
-
yep I made it.
I wanted to go a little retro in design.
Sometimes futuristic can become too stereotype.
it's a progresion from the F series.
F 15
F 18 and so forth this has to be at least the F 440.

200 years and it's only one step up?

Mmmm... a half-meg animated middle finger to all the dialup users.

Closer to a third of a meg, and it should load reasonably quick (about 5min on the outside).
Its gorgeous, Couger. I especially like the molding around the exhaust apertures. Also, the trailing edge of the wings has a very nice shape to it.

Absolutely. It makes me think of a near future sort of setting, rather than a far future one. Maybe, though it breaks my heart to say it, even an anime setting. That thing wouldn't look out of place launching from the deck of the SDF-1, for example.

funny, that's what I thought (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
But what would it breaks your heart?

Anyways, nice design. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I remember that guy...what ever happened to him anyways?
Almost forgot to comment on the fighter! That thing rocks! Definately has a Macross feel to it, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Nice, but it does look like an areospace fighter you'd expect to see in maybe 30 years in the future as opposed to 500 or so.

I hate to see good models wasted on Anime, especially Robotech (I really don't much like most of what Macek did to the three anime he raped for his 'creation'). CougEr did a great job on this, and it has an anime look and it would, indeed, fit in Robotech. Saying so, however, is to detract from the skill he obviously put into the thing.

Well, Macek did the best he could with what they told him to do I think (plus w/o robotech, no-one would know about southern cross and mospaedan even in japan they're not known).
Anyway, just say it would fit well in Macross et voila (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

actually, I think that's exactly how spacefighters would look like TODAY if we had the tech ( just like the car in the first batman would be exactly how cars would have looked like in middle age if knights did have the tech). hey... that gives me good ideas for an alternative universe (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

*heh* I had seen Genesis Diver MOSPEADA when I lived in Germany, long before I ever saw Robotech (and it isn't unknown in japan, its a cult classic. You could find wall scrolls, cel-books and stuff for it everywhere in Yamato, Machida and even in Tokyo. One of the hobby magazines even had a section for kitbashed MOSPEADA models, plastic and resin). I don't think anyone told Macek what to do with the three series: I think he just made up a bunch of crap so he could reuse the cels.
I'll agree, though: It looks like something right out of Macross. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

actually, Macek did that because he was asked to do so: the original macross series was too short for a full US TV season and... well, it's a long story, i'm sure you already have heard about it.
Yeah, true, Mospaeda is well known, but not Southern Cross ( and, honestly, it's not difficult to understand why). damn, I even have two Mospaeda toys (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) ( in very bad shape unfortunately (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) )

And, on a 56k modem getting closer to about 52, that's about 71sec. Nothing to whine about.

It loaded instantly on my broadband, which has a max speed of 50KBytes/s. Hmmmmm?
-
Relax... it's only a 15 frames per second 320x240 256 colour pallet gif.
I can make it even smaller on DiVX but HTML is not enabled here so I can't post it as such.
I'm on a slow dialup and it took me about 60 secs to see it. But from the 21st of this month tadaaaa...I'll be on cable again.
Instantly!
BTW I know nothing about anime... who's or what is Macross?

Macross inna nutshell:
Alien spaceship crashes on Earth.
Humans rebuild said ship, calling it the SDF-1.
Humans also develop variable (transforming) fighters known as Veritechs.
Giant Zentreadi warriors arrive ten years later, trying to recapture the SDF-1.
SDF-1 folds to Pluto space and tries to return to Earth.
Much **** happens, and in an impressive display of fireworks 99.9% of Earths population and about 4.5 of 5 million ships are destroyed.
-
A nice model... and I agree with some people here, it does have someking of Macross feeling in it :)

Good summary for Robotech, not quite as good for Macross.

okay I'll try to use this new improved forum although looks a little too technical for me.
Thank you for the nice comments on the F-440
Now to my chores. I am working on the background for a TV commercial. They send me this old tug, a cardassian starship. I did not make the model but I did all the textures lighting and effects.
I just thought I share this one with you to get your imput.
it is no finished by all meens.

(// http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/homs/card2.jpg)
I'm not sure about the BKG yet.
the main effect will be in the next pass where the background will warp wherever the ship passes over it.
my idea was to make a particle animation nebula that would gently push out of the way of the ship as it passes over it, but NOPE.
NEEXT! client did not like the idea.
Client likes red. I hate red but that's what they want.

I wanted to find out for myself *sniff*
BTW great fighter

yep VORCHA not sure of the spelling
do you guys want the model?
its Lightwave 6 version and you don't have to use my pics for texture you can use your own if you like but it's a good model
-
mmh, no thanx :D I like the model but not the ship.
Anyway, I have Max, not LW, so it would be useless. But I could stea... borrow the maps w/o any pb :D

Quick thing though, Robotech is NOT anime.
If you want a big spiel on the history of the shows go here.
http://www.steelfalcon.com/Macross/continuity.shtml
The site's information is solid, just hasn't been updated in awhile.
Was probably forgotten/abandoned like so many other sites out there.

robotech is an anime, since it's made out of three animes  The fact that they were put together by americans change nothing.

That would make Transformers anime, which it assuredly is not.

transformer's made up from japanese stuff?

umm... okay you talked me in to it.
now for some maps.
I have compiled a ZIP file called maps.zip. it is now on my server for you to download. it contains 39 images, all JPG's and reasonable in quality.
Those are the maps I use most frequently to create hulls and textures on my ships.
Well, I have a lot more but those should be a good start for those who have none.
Remember, the Bump maps is often made by converting the image to greyscale and incresing the contrast to achieve an ALPHA image of the map. Some are there alread, others you might have to make.
Have fun and let's see something that looks a little different from the usual FS2 textures.
:)
NOTE! it is just under 2 megs (1.75 by memory) and it will not live for too long on my server, so get to it NOW!
This sort of stuff will also be available on OSIRIS STATION forum HAF-ELITE/ 3D animation forum, from now on.
So come and pay it a visit.
:)
A little pimping here!
Fly high and have fun.
DISCLAIMER!
All the maps are for free distribution, because I said so.
