Hello,
First post. I have just downloaded and installed the FS2 open via the online installer.
I want to thank all of you who have kept this game going and have done a wonderful job of making it work on newer hardware.
I have installed FS2 and it works well with one small problem....the voice used to give breifings and during campaign communications is that of the Narrator from Micrsoft (Mike/Sam/Bill..whatever).
If anyone might be able to provide a link to or instructions for resolving this niggly problem I would much appreciate it!!! The deadpan narrration kind of kills the drama of the game!!
Thanks in advance for any replies

Post names and sizes of files in your freespace2 directory.

Turey,
I will do as soon as I get back home in front of the laptop again.
BTW if you are the Turey from the Java installer, great job!!!
It was very easy to use and work with Xp Sp 2 no problems on a Toshiba Laptop Celeron M with an ATI Raedeon Xpress 200m card.
I noticed the in the log section of the installer after complete download, all the FS1 port stuff did not download, error reported the mirror was down.. no biggie but I thought to let you know.
Thanks for the reply

Hnm.... if you want an easy way to do that, see my sig under "Posting your FS2 directory"

I'm having the same problem, I'm running Windows Vista, if that helps. I used the Freespace 2 easy install. Any help would be appreciate, as the voice acting in Freespace 2 was one of the most memorable pieces of the game!

Yes, you are missing the tango1, 2 & 3 vps from your root directory, these are the voice files required for FS2 and also missing the warble vp which I believe is the music vp. There is another missing but I can't for the life of me remember what it is at the moment?
You are also missing files from FSPort, but this is a known issue as the wcsaga server is down at the moment.

Stu_fs2.vp is the voices. Tango is the command briefing animations.

That's the one I was missing! I was rattling my head but it wouldn't fall out! ;)
oooh! post 888, I should have had a bet on today!

It's disturbing how often this is happening, yet I can't seem to track the problem down...
If anyone used the .jar version and had this problem, would you mind posting FreeSpace2\Installer\installer_error.log.txt ? I'd like to take a look at it.

Yeah. I've noticed something of a trend here.

Wow, thanks for the fast responses!
How would I locate those files myself? Should I rerun the online installer or is ther a location where I can pick and choose what files to download?
Thanks for the help
EDIT:
Just had a bit of a nosy around the forum, woul downloading the mn_zpack for herehttp://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html)

To fix this problem:
1. Run the Installer. It'll say it's out-of-date. Get the new version from the page it sends you to.
2. Open up FreeSpace2\Installer\installedversions.txt and delete the following lines, then save it.
NAME
FreeSpace2 Retail Core
VERSION
Version 3
NAME
FreeSpace2 Voice
VERSION
Version 1
NAME
FreeSpace2 Music
VERSION
Version 1
NAME
FreeSpace2 Tech Animations

Version 1
3. Run the updated Installer.
