I just found this game and it is awsome. I found B5 I've found her a few months ago and enjoy that aswell. In that game you can use a throttle to control the thrust, but I haven't found how to do it in TBP. I have a saitek X-52 stick and throttle. Is this a supported function or or you constrained to the keyboard? Once again, this game is awsome. The graphics are great and best of all it is supported and developed by people that love the show and have the know-how to make games and are willing to share it with the public. My hat goes off to you all.

Start the game.. Go to options menu, select control config, select ship, click on the absolute throttle axis (or relative... which ever you happen to prefer), click bind, move the throttle back and forth.

Nah, just kiddin. Just wanted to ask you guys about joysticks.
Could anyone give me some advice which joystick I should buy? Should be a very good one, as long as it doesn'Ät cost much more then 120 bucks.
Thing is that I have no clue about joysticks or gamepads, since I'm a die hard keyboard an mouse user. But well, some Freespace 2 Conversions are really hard to play witout a joystick (i.e. BSG: BtrL) so I figured that I could need one.

I've heard many good things about Saitek joysticks, apparently they will outlast you the are that well built. Don't buy any CH sticks though, as they have some shoddy construction. I cannot speak from experiance however as I am a gamepad man myself, (using a PS2 gamepad with a USB adapter, eleven buttons, dual analogue and a digital direction pad which controls the POV, cool! :yes: )
BTW, have you been beamed yet knorke?

Yeah, I heared that the Saitek sticks are good and I was able to "test" a few of them. They felt good in hand and the buttons are well placed, but that's all I could figure out, since they were not connected to a computer.

So far siatek has been my favorite. Before i got the x-52 I had a Saitek Cyborg Evo. It worked great. I got the X-52 so i could have a more realistick throtle. Thanks for the advice on TBP throttle support. I will try that ASAP.

can you adjust the hand rest on that one? my hands are rather small.

You can move the hand rest vertically on the stick. All it does is adjust the pinky botton though.

Hey, i`ve got one of them :D Saitex Cyborg graphite, it already had a throttle control on it. Don`t know if the throttle works in game though, never thought to try it. :nervous:

Well, I bought the Cyborg evo today. The x-52 is very nice indeed but I don't need all that stuff (Buttons etc) on it. And I also prefer it when the throttle is attached to the stick, it's more comfortable to me.
I also have a new criteria for women. The should feel as nice as a Saitek Cyborg evo *lmao*

I'm wondering because in my experience, CH sticks are about as durable as a main battle tank. Hell, the one I got along with my first PC (a 486DX system with 8MB ram) is still going strong, and if it was a piece of shoddy construction I'd not have expected it to last through 6 computers and such gruelling workouts as WC1 through 4, Privateer, Elite & Frontier: Elite 2, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, an obscene number of MicroProse flightsims, and of course our beloved Freespace 1 & 2 and a load of addon campaigns. I only recently replaced it due to wanting a USB stick as those run faster under DosBox than gameport sticks, but it's still in 100% working order and connected to an older computer.

Anyway, as to the subject I can only say the same things I've said before.
Logitech sticks are ergonomically pretty good, but electronically they're like Russian roulette with a semi-automatic. The rate of the sticks that go bad in unacceptable short time seems to be pretty high and that includes mine.
As far as Saitek sticks go, Saitek Cyborg Evo has been pretty good. Electronically, way more durable than the Logitech's Extreme 3D Pro, anyway. I bought mine almost two years ago and only recently I've had some anomalous readings in the middle area of Y-axis. However, ergonomically I have to say that the Logitech stick was somewhat better for my hand.
Durability-wise, I've had some problems with the Saitek trigger but that's not really Saitek's fault, it's just that my hand doesn't believe the fact that bullets don't fly faster when I press the trigger more... :P But it's nothing a good dose of duct tape didn't fix.
Also, the gimbal structure has worn out slightly, which increases the mechanical response deadzone in the middle of the stick.
And by the way, I got interesting results when I added some little WD-40 oil to the visible moving parts of the gimbal system. Movement went a whole lot smoother in a blink, and thus far there's been no corrosive damage of any sort either... :nervous:
