Title: That Ross 128 mission from a while back...
Post by: Ghost on June 20, 2007, 03:59:23 pm
Did it ever get fully converted for use with the Port? I can play the main campaign blindfolded but I'm still in an FS mood and I was looking for something short but awesome to play.

EDIT:: heee.... that was awesome. You synced everything up PERFECTLY. Added props for that debriefing... Although I must say that planet model is a little outdated.

As for the planet, it's a vintage FS1 model. :D

Here you go. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,19317.0.html)  It theoretically requires version 2.3, but it might work on 3.x.

Oh, hey, uh, I just had this thought...how bout a Tombaugh station attack mission? Pleeeeease?  :D

I'm just creating a port-campaign from my 7 year old missions and some new ones circled around the destruction of Tombaugh Station....
currently I'm on mission 11 of 16 so release might be possible at the end of the month... (It won't be great but anyway)
Title: Re: That Ross 128 mission from a while back...
Post by: haloboy100 on July 07, 2007, 03:19:12 pm
is there anymore cinematic-focused missions like this? a remake of the battle of Deneb (as seen in the freespace 2 intro) would be really cool!

By the way, how do you install these?? i never did install an actual campaign or single mission before that isn't used by the mod feature
Title: Re: That Ross 128 mission from a while back...
Post by: jr2 on July 08, 2007, 03:40:50 am
It probably uses FSPort... install it to: \FreeSpace2\fsport\data\missions
If it has a Campaign file (.fsc), then select its campaign in the Campaign Room.
If it doesn't, then open the mission in the Tech Room, make sure you select "Single Missions" or whatever they're called.

Hmmm... Does that version include lots of ships? Because Tombaugh Station was supposed to be a fortress... :nervous:

Oh whatever.

Do you mean INFASA or stock INFA?

I thought that the HTL Apollo wasn't very good, but then I saw the original, although the new one could still be updated.

WOW!  Someone remembered my mission.  Its pretty much the only thing I've ever released in fact.  I was working on making some small improvements by including a change-alt-name use so that the Lilith cruiser would arrive first listed as a Cain, then change its class to Lilith, but I never really got around to finishing it.  Can't remember what else I was gonna do for it.

Regarding Tombaugh being a fortress, I really didn't have much to go on for station models, and staying within the Port's available ship pool meant that all I had was an Arcadia to work with.  My only way to beef up its defenses was by throwing in a few additional escort cruisers and a bunch of sentries.

I'll tell the entire HLPBB right now:

I know absolutely nothing about modeling, scripting, texturing, or how to mod. at all.

I don't know what wings3D is either, or what UV map is. Actually, i don't even know what HTL means, just that it makes stuff look cool. :wakka:

So yes. i do fail at life. (:ha:) and the closest thing that i know about modding at all is the basics of FRED :P

SO yes, give me a funny title now :P

OKay, here's a question for you.

How the hell do I get these missions (Ross128, Tombaugh) to work?  I have them in the Freespace2 folder like the other mods, do I need to put them in another folder, or what?

Currently the paths to folders are Games\Freespace2\fsport-Ross128
and
Games\Freespace2\TombaughStationAttack

With all the related files in the folders...

How do I make them work!? I want to play!!

Mission Simulator in the Tech Room, select "single mission", not "campaign mission"... you have to have the Port running as your mod... and it'd better not be in your root directory... if it is, go read karajorma's FAQ (FreeSpace FAQ) found at the top of this page, under "External Sites".

Title: Re: That Ross 128 mission from a while back...
Post by: jr2 on July 18, 2007, 03:38:09 am
\Freespace2\fsport\data\missions... etc

ya, that would be good, I think... as long as they don't have any table files that override fsport's.  What kind of files are there?
Title: Re: That Ross 128 mission from a while back...
Post by: Terashell on July 18, 2007, 03:45:30 am
TombaughStationAttack folder contains:
cruiser01b-02a-glow.pcx
cruiser01b-04a-glow.pcx
TombaughAttack.fs2
cruiser01b-01a-glow.pcx
cruiser01b-03a-glow.pcx
ships.tbl

fsport-Ross128 folder contains:
fsport-Ross128.vp
and a few image files and a readme that doesn't help me get it to work.
Title: Re: That Ross 128 mission from a while back...
Post by: jr2 on July 18, 2007, 03:47:53 am
ok, then put them in their own directories, like this:

\freespace2\tombaughattack

\freespace2\ross128

then, make a mod.ini file and put 1 each in those directories.  The mod.ini file should contain:

Code: [Select]
secondarylist=fsport,mediavps
I think that should fix it for you.  Then just select the ross128 or tombaughattack as your mod.  Let me know if this works for you.

You have to file > save as, then select type "all files", then click in the name box, type mod.ini, then hit save.  as long as it's type "all files", it won't auto-append an extension.  Try that.

EDIT: g2g for now.  Let me know if this works... good luck!  (I think once mod.ini's working, you'll be all set.)

Frustration with this:      out of five.

I can get Ross128 as a single mission, but not as the campaign its supposed to be, apparently.  I can't get Tombaugh to work at all.   Would someone who's actually gotten these to work provide step by step instructions, so that even a total noob could make it work right?  I'm going to crash out now... I hope there's an answer when I get back...
Title: Re: That Ross 128 mission from a while back...
Post by: Goober5000 on July 18, 2007, 08:52:02 am
Ross 128 only needs to be run as a campaign in FS1, and only for technical reasons.  In FS2 you can run it as a standalone mission.

You can use Windows Explorer to rename mod.ini.txt to mod.ini.  And while you're at it, if you haven't already, you should set the options to always display file extensions.

dir *.vp *.tbl /s > directories.txt

Then post directories.txt here (preferably as an attachment).

I tried both Ross128 and Tombaugh Attack;
neither work.

The odd thing about both is that the FS2 Intro movie plays, not the FS1 Intro, like should happen if it's using FSPort.  Both are using this mod.ini:
Code: [Select]
secondarylist=,fsport, mediavps;(I've tried with just the comma in front & no semi at the back, with just the semi at the back, and no comma in front, with neither the semi at the back nor the comma in front; and also as you see it now... no difference.)

Ross128 throws errors about a pof file unless you remove the ships.tbl; in which case, you end up in a Ulysses with no weapons.  The buoys / beacons are also Ulysses fighters.

You'd have to put the files in \fsport\data\missions, fsport\data\models, etc, etc, or run it as a mod in its own directory with a mod.ini that points to fsport.
